the year that hit the world

Personally, I like it very much. The Trial of the Chicago 7 can be ranked in the top five movies of the year so far this year. The script, which has a historical texture in itself, has been carefully dramatized, repeatedly interspersed with narrative perspectives and tone, and flashed into historical images. The entire film presents the New Left in the 1960s, Vietnam War, hippies, racial issues, etc. Wait, although almost 70% of the content of the film is in the courtroom, and most of the other scenes appear indoors, all this is clearly stated. Some people say that this film has an overly idealized lighthouse style, but these seven people are clearly people of different identities and ideas. This is not only a collision of authoritarianism, but also an interrogation of their own thoughts. (Freckle's character especially) Four stars more than one star gives me the sentiment I'm infected with last year's #BLM boost. “I believe that language of being the minority is the most important language that you can ever speak in your life. Because how you feel in the position of compromise will directly determine how you will react in a position of power.”

Regarding the language of being the minority, I wrote down two confessional speeches when I read it:

The hippies say, "Because I don't have money." - I don't have money to attract media exposure and attention, so only grandstanding, so that people can hear a little bit of what they want to express.

The black man asked "You're the same kind of person as your father, aren't you? - don't be a geek, respect authority, respect America, respect me. Your life is a rebellion against the patriarchy, right? Now you understand, rebellion against father and rebellion Status discrimination isn't the same thing, is it?"

What is especially touching is that under the aggressive question at the end - "Please give me a little more time, my friend, this is the first time my thoughts are being examined."

In addition: The only transition in the whole film made me a little uncomfortable, and the light and shade did not make Woo too good. But when you talk about the editing format (sound), I don't think it's bad. On the contrary, I love speech montage. Why bother~

The Trial of the Chicago 7 quotes

  • Judge Julius Hoffman: And the record should reflect, that defendant Hoffman and I are not related.

    Abbie Hoffman: [sarcastic] Father, no!

Judge Julius Hoffman: [bangs his gavel] Mr. Hoffman, are you familiar with contempt of court?

Abbie Hoffman: It's practically a religion for me, sir.

  • Sondra: You can't give this speech in Chicago!

Bobby Seale: Fred Hampton wants me there. Plane ticket.

Sondra: Let Fred give the speech!

Bobby Seale: Between Hayden and Hoffman there could be 5'000 people. It'd be nice to talk to 5'000 people.

Sondra: Not while you're in trouble in Connecticut.

Bobby Seale: Yes, well I'm in trouble - I'm the head of the Black Panthers, Sondra! When the hell am I not gonna be in trouble? Travel bag.

Sondra: You're going to be in a lot more of it if you stand up and say 'Fry the pigs!'

Bobby Seale: IF they attack me. You're taking it out of context.

Sondra: So will every white person in America! Cops won't give a shit about context, and you don't have enough protection in Chicago.

Bobby Seale: There's no place to be right now but in it.

    Sondra: But 'Fry the pigs'?

    Bobby Seale: IF they attack...

    Sondra: Dr. King...

Bobby Seale: Is dead! He has a dream? Well now he has a fucking bullet in his head! Martin's dead, Malcom's dead, Medgar's dead, Bobby's dead, Jesus is dead. They tried it peacefully, we're gonna try something else.
