People who are good at thinking have been interested in the concept of "existence" intentionally or unintentionally, especially after the invention of the computer, the emergence of the virtual world has opened up the territory of the problem of "existence" on a large scale. Cronenberg only tasted the "game" part of this territory.
In the film, everyone is playing a game called eXistenZ. Before playing this game, the player himself has to get through the "Ren Du Second Channel"-the spine, so that the game driver in the pod can be implanted into the human body through the umbicord (umbilical cable). , The game can only proceed. Here, the human body itself is the host of the game, and the body is the power source for the biochemical battery to maintain the game. It is not difficult to see that through the umbicord adsorption of the human body, Cronenberg satirized the game's erosion of people and the human spirit.
A total of four levels of game world are described in the movie: the first level is the real world, that is, the world in the unexpected ending of the film; the second level is the world where Allegra plays the game designer and is hunted down; the third level is the game played by Allegra and Pikul. The game world (this world has many disgusting weird creatures); the fourth world is rarely inked, it is Allegra connected to a disgusting game-pod in the slaughterhouse and infected with spores (this world is not entered in the movie) . These four worlds run in parallel and are connected to each other. For example, the gun that uses teeth as bullets, and the dog raised by Allegra and Pikul, several worlds appear, blurring the border between reality and virtuality. The player also brought the madness in the game outside the game, just like Allegra smiled when he shot Kiri and said: He's only a game character. At the end of the film, the indifference of other players after Allegra and Pikul shot Nourish and Merle is similar to the situation in which Pikul shot a Chinese chef in the game. Even when the film ended Allegra and Pikul pointed the gun at the guard, he just asked "Are we still in the game".
It is ridiculous that we have created a virtual world in the real world, but when we create a virtual world, we try to reproduce the real world. In the movie, Allegra shouted "Death to the demon Ted Pikul!" and asked the sky: "Have l won the game?" How natural and innocent the smile on her face is. For her, all this is a game. She won; but as outsiders we know that all this is no longer a game. She has been implanted with the idea that everything is a game, and she has lost from the beginning.
"We are all constantly playing games and forget to go out
and pursue occasional satisfaction
in the game. We are all free in the game. We are all free from the game. We
laugh soberly. We ca
n't reach the end and return to the origin to
enjoy the endless game
..."
