"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is another Nicolas Cage movie after "The Prophet", but as far as Cage's image is concerned, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" shows a character image with a very different style.
In "The Prophet", Cage's role as John is more prominent as a "human", with complex and intense conflicts and unique characters. In this film, as a non-human image of a wizard, it has a different style.
In this film, Baruchel, who has more shots of Dave, steals the limelight. As a young actor and a rising star on the silver screen, he has successfully shaped the growth process of an apprentice. Responsibility runs through the beginning and end of the film as a hidden clue. From the initial cowardice and abandonment, to the later ideological awareness, it gradually became stronger, until finally defeating the witch and saving Balthazar.
At the same time, love is also perfectly reflected here. Two loves spanning time and space are intertwined, and everything is awakened because of love.
What makes the film special and eye-catching is its magical subject matter, which is different from "Harry Potter", but in contrast, the grand narrative and long-form mode may have an advantage.
After getting used to the large-scale series of movies like "Harry Potter", maybe movies like "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" always give people a slightly under-heated taste. For example, the final struggle may be exaggerated. some for a feast for the eyes.
