This is the term for pedophiles on the Internet. They call underage girls "hard candy".

Is there any significance to the red hooded top?
The answer is most emphatically no. The director David Slade states in his commentary that they did not have a large budget for clothing. The clothes for Patrick took up all the budget and, because of the colour scheme of the rooms, only red would show up significantly. David states (but may have been exaggerating) that they only had $20 left, and this left the costume designer with only one item on the rack, a hooded top.

worn by Heyley Is there any special significance to that red hoodie?
It must be emphasized that the answer is no. Director David Slade said in the commentary track that they didn't have a big budget for the costumes. The clothes for Patrick (the male lead) have already spent most of the money, and because it has to match the color of the room, only red is more conspicuous. David said (of course he might be exaggerating) that they ended up with only $20 left, and all he had left for the costume designer was a hoodie.

Was Jeff castrated?
No! This is emphasized by David Slade in his commentary with the writer Brian Nelson, and these two people should know. Hayley has placed an unknown bloodied object in the glass to make it look like she has cut them, off but has clearly placed a bull dog clip over his testes to numb them. Jeff reaches down, unclips it and says "I'm all there." David Slade points out his relief at finding he is whole.

Logically, a man who was just castrated would likely not have had the ability to run around and climb a ladder. Also, it is unlikely that Hayley would have gone out of her way to castrate him if she was going to subsequently get him to hang himself.

Was Jeff castrated?
Absolutely not! That's what director David Slade and screenwriter Brian Nelson highlighted in the commentary track, and both of them know what's going on. Hayley took an unidentified bloody object and placed it in the glass to make it look like she had cut them off. But she actually took a little iron clip around Jeff's words and numb them. When Jeff broke free, he got up, took the clip, and said, "It's okay, it's still there." David Slade was relieved to find out that he wasn't castrated.

Logically speaking, it is impossible for a man to have the strength to run around and climb ladders after being castrated. Moreover, since Hayley was going to force him to hang himself later, he didn't have to spend so much effort to castrate him.
(Another netizen added that after Jeff got up, he took out the tape from the camera, and it said something about the castration procedure, which means that Hayley just let him watch a video of a medical castration surgery, making him think he was being castrated. For the mental torture!)

What happened at the end?
Was Jeff hanged? Yes, according to David Slade and Brian Nelson. David points out that the overall budget was less than one million dollars, and it was shot in 18 days, leaving very little margin for errors or re-shoots. That scene was filmed at the stunt director's house with a large mat under the wall. The stunt man jumped and was required to pull the rope tight as he landed on the mat to simulate Jeff hanging, but to do this he brought his arm up, which had to be digitally erased. David states it may not look authentic because of the budget and shooting restraints.

What happened in the end?
Did Jeff overflow to death? Yes, according to David Slade and Brian Nelson. David pointed out that since the entire budget was less than $1 million and the filming was completed in 18 days, there was little room for misshoots or reshoots. The last scene was shot at the stunt director's house, and there's a big cushion under the wall where Jeff jumped off. The stuntman had to jump from the roof and land on the mat while pulling the rope taut to cause Jeff to be hanged. But in order to do that, he had to raise one of his arms, which was removed in post-effects. David said it might not seem realistic, but because of budget and filming conditions, that was the only way to go.

There is also a thread on the subject of the castration scene:
I actually felt physical pain in my "area" during that scene. Tend to get too into movies and this was "Concentration gone wrong". Oh lord.

囧囧囧, so this one The best subtitle of the film is: give your penis(=boy's dignity) some color to see see!!
