This type of story didn't appeal to me at all. If it was a book, I would never read it a second time. It's amazing Kubrick, and I didn't feel bored at all during the whole process. Besides, it was the first time that Kubrick's grim perspective was felt very strongly. Before watching "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "The Shining", I didn't have the same feeling. Maybe the universe gave me a very cold feeling, and I haven't read the original book of The Shining, and I feel that thrillers should be like that. "Barry Lyndon" is such a "famous" story, whether it is the male protagonist's high-rise life in the early stage or the relatively down-to-earth experience in the later stage, it makes people feel particularly rational to examine. I can always empathize with the protagonist in movies, even if the villain in "A Clockwork Orange" I can empathize with him (partly, I'm not a pervert hahaha), but watching "Barry Lyndon" is a bystander all the way Feeling, every time you have to put in a little bit, you will get rid of it immediately. The design of some plots, the restrained acting skills of the actors (probably Kubrick's request), and the music should all be the reasons. I won't say anything, but in short: I don't understand it, but I'm shocked.

I love Kubrick so much

The 1975 film is still a level that cannot be surpassed by Chinese historical themes. Not only the indoor candlelight photography, but also the insight into the world and people's hearts. The restoration of the historical scenes of the full scene and the meticulousness of the costumes are no longer a test of filmmakers, but a test of a country's attitude towards cultural heritage. It's easy to shoot "flying" historical subjects, but it's really difficult to shoot really. The only regret is that the male protagonist's eyes are too pure and do not show the complexity of the characters after their depravity.

#DocumentaryPhoto# The film is over three hours long but does not feel redundant. It is divided into two parts. The first part tells the history of Raymond Barry's fortune, and the second part tells how he came to a tragic ending. The life legend of the poor boy of the ghost horse can always resonate, such as Mr. Jin Yong's "The Deer". In terms of appearance, Kubrick's masterpiece is comparable to Bergman's "Fanny and Alexander". A frame is like a classical oil painting, and the soundtrack that integrates classical and modern comes one after another, and Kubrick's multi-faceted diversity is also vividly reflected in the film. He never repeats himself, but he is able to play with ease in any kind of film and shoot a shocking masterpiece. "Barry Lyndon" has long surpassed the shackles of traditional biopics, and has discovered a new artistic world between absurdity and strangeness. It can be said that "Barry Lyndon" is an anti-traditional and non-mainstream biopic, and sincere As the ending subtitle says, it is only the people and things of a specific historical period. As time passes by, no matter the beauty, the ugly, the good or the evil, or the poor and the poor, they will all be treated equally by history. And this may be Kubrick's view of history and life, right?

Barry Lyndon quotes

  • Sir Charles Lyndon: [laughs] He wants to step into my shoes. He wants to step into my shoes. Is it not a pleasure Gentlemen for me, as I am drawing near the goal - to find my home such a happy one - my wife so fond of me, that she is even now thinking of appointing a successor? Isn't it a comfort to see her like a prudent housewife - getting everything ready for her husband's departure?

Redmond Barry: I hope you're not thinking of leaving us soon, Sir Charles?

Sir Charles Lyndon: Not so soon my dear as you may fancy, perhaps. Why man I've been given over many times these four years. And there was always a candidate or two - waiting to apply for the situation. I'm sorry for you, Mr. Barry. It grieves me to keep you or any gentleman waiting. Had you not better arrange with my doctor or have the cook flavor my omelette with arsenic, eh? What are the odds, gentlemen, that I live to see Mr. Barry hang yet?

Redmond Barry: Sir, let those laugh that win.

  • Narrator: [voice-over] A lady who sets her heart upon a lad in uniform must prepare to change lovers pretty quickly, or her life will be but a sad one. This heart of Lischen's was like many a neighboring town and had been stormed and occupied several times before Barry came to invest it.
