There are lies within lies, and truth lies beneath the truth.
Peeling the Onion - The Truth Under the Truth
At the beginning of the film, in the hotel room, the first story happened.
Laura is murdered, and Adrian becomes the scapegoat. Adrienne firmly insisted that most of the audience had to believe that the killer completed a seamless secret room killing with an extremely ingenious method.
Goodman does not belong to this majority of the audience.
Under the pressure of Goodman, another murder surfaced, peeling the first layer of onion skin.
Adrian accidentally kills teenager Daniel on the way home from a date with Laura. Laura stopped Adrian from calling the police. In order to deal with the passing driver, she played a good show of the driver involved negotiating on his own. He also asked Adrian to throw his body while he dealt with the car that couldn't start. Of course, these are all from Adrian's mouth.
Adrian sank the car carrying the boy's body to the bottom of the lake and got back into the BMW that Laura was driving.
Laura peeled off the second layer of the onion, and the spiciness of the truth was suffocating.
While waiting for a tow truck, Laura meets Thomas, a professional BMW mechanic. He offered to help Laura repair the car. When she came to Thomas's house, Laura suddenly discovered that the teenager they hit and killed was the son of Thomas and his wife Elvira. Elvira heard that her son was not with friends, and hurriedly called him, but did not expect that his son's mobile phone was already in Laura's hands. Seeing that things were about to come to light, Laura hurriedly drove away with Thomas watching.
Laura and Adrian went home each, promising not to be in touch again, while Adrian continued to be amazed by the situation in his career.
The police summoned Adrian.
After Daniel disappeared, police found traces of a car accident, and Laura, who claimed to have hit a deer, was driving a car owned by Adrian. Under the cover of Adrian's lawyer Felix, the police temporarily let Alex go. Alex simply told the lawyer that he was not in Paris, but was with his lover.
Facing Goodman, who was determined to ask the truth, Adrian had no choice but to peel off the third layer of onion skin.
After their split, Adrian contacted Laura again. Laura told him that she used her husband Bruno to work from home to frame Daniel for transferring funds without permission. Immediately, the boy's father also discovered the suspicion of Adrian.
When clarifying the case, Adrian took the initiative to peel the fourth layer of onion skin. He believed that a passing driver had asked him to meet at a hotel in order to extort money. Adrian suspects that the driver either found himself hitting the boy or witnessed his body being thrown.
However, the three problems of "Goodman" made Adrian have to give up his bullshit onion skin. The female lawyer scolded Adrian and peeled off the fifth layer of onion skin in her eyes. Thomas, the teenager's father, had been hiding in the hotel, attacked them when Adrian came in, and then blamed the male lead for Laura's death.
Goodman told the male protagonist that Thomas took advantage of his wife's position in the hotel to enter and leave the room without leaving a trace, and left calmly before the police arrived.
Immediately, Goodman received a call claiming the driver was a secret witness. In order to get rid of the crime for the male protagonist, Goodman fabricated the sixth layer of onion skin, and she gave a set of rhetoric that only Laura promoted the development of the incident throughout the whole process. In order to make this statement valid, Goodman asked the male protagonist to reveal the location of the dead body.
Adrian trusted Goodman and confessed that he knew that the deceased's mother worked in a hotel and that the deceased's mother was the murderer, and drew the location of the dead body on the map.
However, the male protagonist had to confess that when the car was pushed down the lake, the boy was not dead. And if the police autopsy, this matter will be exposed, so I hope Goodman can help hide the past. This is the seventh floor, which is enough to shock the audience's three views.
anger! Female lawyers are very angry! Peel off the last layer of onion skin! In everything, the leader is Adrian! On the contrary, Laura couldn't stand the torture of her conscience and confessed the truth to Daniel's parents.
"Goodman" came to Thomas' room in the opposite building on the pretext of breathing. The light returned to a slow-life warm color, took off the wig, and removed the disguise. "Goodman" is the mother of the teenager.
Adrian opened the door again - the lawyer who had rescued him was at the door.
Left to Right - The Destiny After the Truth
This is a Rashomon-style drama. The final truth is that the male protagonist used the power in his hand to indulge his selfishness and despicability, killing two lives.
Adrian is evil and will be punished properly in the end. The audience is also happy to watch.
But this also makes the film no longer extremely oppressive.
The first half of the film is undoubtedly more oppressive. The protagonist is in trouble after a series of accidents. He can only make up lies with all his strength, and he will fall into the abyss of ruin if he is not careful. Before the protagonist is forced to tell the truth, the audience has been pitiful and anxious about the seemingly unexpected but doomed fall of the protagonist.
Jumping out of the maze-like plot, accident, judgment, choice, this cycle also constitutes our life. When facing a fork in the road, the navigation said right, but Adrian chose left. I chose to go to the left, and I chose to be invincible.
It is often the seemingly inconspicuous decision that determines our life. That's why we often say, "If I hadn't..." when things are out of control, no one can predict the future when making choices.
The Butterfly Effect.
All the inadvertent details are woven into a web and wrapped around everyone. This is the source of oppression.
And there are lies—one lie, and a hundred lies to make up for it. The whole movie is propped up by countless lies.
There are lies within lies, and truth lies beneath the truth.
Watching the lies that have been made up with great effort are pierced little by little by the sharp blade of the truth, it is very heavy, very painful, and very powerless. And with the accumulation of lies, the consequences of being pierced are also more serious.
Reject lies.
In the movie, Adrian has a line, "I treat that encounter as a stain on the glass and turn a blind eye, so that I can live a normal life."
Too many stains to ignore.
