the meaning of tragedy

Three and a half. What was supposed to be a realist story turned out to be a modern-day Oedipus the King.

Before the mystery is revealed, the film's temperament has a strong director's breath. However, everything before the moment when the mystery was revealed became fragmented symbolic images, and a sense of separation was born from this.

The pieces fit together to tell one thing: I'm just telling a story, and you can't get real meaning here. This is where there is a huge gap with the viewing expectations. At its root, the story of Oedipus the King is not realistic, even if it has the canonical narrative of ancient Greek tragedy.

Of course, the movie is only the carrier of the story, and it does not necessarily need to carry some kind of realistic meaning. It's just that there is an expectation at the beginning, and a gap is formed at the end.

The mother's behavior is also difficult to relate to the "forever love for you" her letter says. For all three of the mother's children, I believe this is a heavy secret that will carry her a lifetime. Especially in the letter to his father: "You are still so alive, but after reading the letter, you will become dead." Such words only show the pleasure of mother's revenge for the past. Just remember to add an "s" at the end of "forever", who knows what the shape of the end of tragedy forever will be?

PS: At the beginning of the movie, I was still thinking about whether Villeneuve is the most realistic one of the three Mexican heroes. When I read it, I couldn't help scolding my mother: none of these three guys are not the masters of unrestrained ideas~
