I wanted to say that the poor must have something to hate, and the hateful must have something pitiful. But for this film, it's actually just a person's instant decision that changed the trajectory of his life. For a society under the rule of law, he should not defend and cover up his crimes because of his usual behavior. Unfortunately, from the perspective of this film, both DA's starting point and his behavior are more speculative. So in my opinion, the director is actually more inclined to sympathize with Bernie. Personally, I am more inclined to probation or commutation. At least for someone who can persist in doing good deeds for decades, no matter how hypocritical is, it is far better than those true and evil people who even dismiss such hypocrisy.
Jack Black's acting skills are very good, all kinds of small moves are very damn saying. At the end of the film, the actor looks a bit like a real person, and the cast director is very accurate in finding someone.
