This movie is really entertaining, that's for sure. But above all, this is really a fast-paced, fairly predictable story. If not for the radiant Rachel MaAdams, the whole thing will just be barely watchable.
Again, Rachel MaAdams does wonders. It is quite a mystery why this young and not so great-looking actress is able to leave you such a strong impression however small her role is (take "Sherlock Holmes", not to mention the now classic " Notebook"). And equally impressive is the fact that she always gave nuanced performances and held her own when paired with seasoned actors. For instance, against Patricia Clarkson, Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper in the neo-noir "Married Life", or against Russel Crowe and dame Helen Miren in "State of Play".
Patrick Wilson ("Little Childen") is still a disappoint. Diane Keaton is not so annoying in this movie. And Harrison Ford, though tried to transform himself, looks really really old . I like the rest of the supporting crew though.
That said, I thoroughly like the pace of the movie and how it handles the subject of morning show contributors. It reminds me of the good old days watching "the Today Show" on NBC, "The Early Show" on CBS or occasionally "Good Morning America" on ABC, while munching my breakfast. How I miss seeing Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry and Al Roker bantering with each other on screen!
