'Doctor Sleep': That Child-Murdering Scene Should Leave Its Mark on Horror History

The film does continue the creepy feeling of "The Shining", and the right decision is to change the ending of the novel, giving the audience the opportunity to follow Danny back to the hotel, to review and pay tribute to the classic scene again. The choice of actors is also excellent, I just feel that the first half is a little long. And because the director deliberately didn't try to scare everyone, but only emphasized the creation of the atmosphere, the first half was really bland.

The film tells the story of the little boy Danny growing up. He couldn't face the shadows of his childhood and his uniqueness, and he was once drunk and depraved. Fortunately, he was rescued to the hospital and found a job as a mopping floor. Unexpectedly, with the help of an equally psychic cat, he began to appease the patient before his death, and was named "Doctor Sleep". Later, because a little girl with the same ability found him, the two began to join forces to deal with a group of evil organizations specializing in killing children. The white cat in the film is really super cute. It is a real cat, fluffy and very gentle. It's completely different from the use of cats to show the dark forces in ordinary horror films. The cats in this film are used to appease people who are about to die.

One of the most memorable scenes, Jacob Tremblay's tortured part of a young boy, was unsightly and likely to make some viewers uncomfortable. What's great is that this passage doesn't actually show what he suffered at all, only through his facial expressions and the blood splattered, it's even more frightening. This is also relatively rare on the big screen to torture a child for a long time. But I agree that this scene is important in the novel and the driving force behind the protagonist's brave face of evil, it's still necessary, and it's really more memorable than any scene that's just visually scary.

The film did not use any of the original movie clips from "The Shining", but completely recreated the scene and re-interpreted the classic characters with new people. All your memories of The Shining resurface, only the hotel is older, darker, and creepier. However, because the film has many characters and many scenes, unlike "The Shining", which only shows the stories of several people in a closed space, the brewing in the atmosphere still cannot achieve the effect of "The Shining".

Rebecca Ferguson is a very suitable witch, charming, bewitching and neurotic. The battle between this evil organization and the righteous superhumans in the film will inevitably be compared to the "X-Men" series. Because both parties are people with special abilities, but they are used in both good and evil. It's just that these "Shining" people are still weaker than superheroes, so don't expect any exciting action scenes.

In the final analysis, this is a story about how to overcome the shadows of childhood, no longer escape, bravely face inner fears, and encourage people to use their own advantages in the right way. The world is indeed unfriendly. Many people unfortunately suffered mental and physical trauma in childhood, which will affect them for a lifetime. Like Danny, he would have been reduced to an alcoholic like his father. But fortunately, he first met an anti-alcoholic group who was willing to help him, and then the little black girl allowed him to find a purpose and a sense of responsibility in life, and finally he was able to become a man again. I hope that more people who have been traumatized and closed themselves can get out of the haze as soon as possible and re-recognize the meaning of their lives.

Even turning The Shining into a haunted house to fight monsters is something to watch.

It's fine, as long as it's not viewed as a sequel to The Shining. The last part of returning to the Lookout Hotel is simply a super-long Easter egg from The Shining.
