The Master, a redemption of self

Finally finished watching The Master, I can't help but really want to write a movie review! The first thing to say is Joaquin... If Daniel's Lincoln is 10 points of praise, then Joaquin's master is simply impeccable! He reminds me of Anthony Perkins in Psycho...all acting at the height of Mount Everest. I think the highest level of acting skills is better not to "go into the dark" but to "completely penetrate". Enchanted means that the actor is not controlling the character, but is being controlled by the character. Heath Ledger, who plays an incredible role but has no one. Both are to go to life to act, one is the consumption of the soul, the other is the burning of the soul, both are gorgeous, but the former can only be a one-off.

Joaquin in this movie plays a kind and neurotic man, and many plots are very obscure in it. The director's handling of this made Joaquin's acting skills a great display. Without a dependency, it's also easy to think of Anthony Perkins, and make a comparison. In the movie, they are all mentally fragile and prone to violence (even killing people), they all have an unbearable past, they are eager to be cared for, and they are often alone in refusing others. Anthony was surly because of his dependence on his mother, and Joaquin was warped by the trauma of the war. Although the theme of the film seems to be very unclear and obscure to make people silent, in fact, the theme of human redemption is concrete and in-depth one by one. The redemption of human nature does not have to be heroic and grandiose, just like in the movie, first encounter, then believe, then be convinced, rely on, slowly start to think independently, become doubtful, struggle and think deeply, and finally deny and release from the inside out.

This is a kind of self-awareness in human nature. There are many axes in the movie to remind the audience that the "master" is in bullshit, but many people would rather "choose" to believe, and feel that this will bring them back, and the reality is more in line with their own. "Ideal", but in the end they gave reality a slap in the face. Actually, it's better to be honest with yourself in the first place, let's be honest to yourself, isn't it?

In terms of supporting roles, the character actor Philip's Cinderella Amy, Philip is so worthy of this role, he is using the enthusiasm of playing the leading actor to decorate a supporting actor, although it is a bit robbed, but fortunately Joaquin's skill is unfathomable, The two love and hate in it, and they really complement each other. Anyway, the little golden man is either him or Mr. Li.

On the other hand, Cinderella has actually made a qualitative leap compared to her "Curve Problem". Maybe the actors in it are too hot, and the heat is not enough. And this year, Princess Anne is riveting and swearing to take it or go on a hunger strike. It's really difficult to look like, the lead role is very good, but I don't know if I can escape the judges this time.

PS: It's the soundtrack too. . . It's really great, it's the feeling of being approached step by step~~

PTA is probably one of the directors born in the 1970s who has the most superb command of film language. However, his understanding of human nature has become more and more unique and will inevitably appear extreme and weird. As a result, no matter which individual segments of his recent films are taken out, they are all master-level, but together they have become inexplicable ravings and neurotic attacks. It can only be said that the audience and the actors are tortured together. . .

Some people are not as strong as they seem. But fate is determined, we can only know a few people.

The Master quotes

  • Lancaster Dodd: You shouldn't work in your condition.

Freddie Quell: No, I can work.

    Lancaster Dodd: You're aberrated.

    Freddie Quell: No I'm not!

Lancaster Dodd: You know what that means?

    Freddie Quell: ...No.

  • Clark: [talking to Freddy about Doris during a test] She got rid of you, right? She saw you for what you are. Selfish. And alone. You should go into the hospital with your mother. 'Cause that's where you belong. 'Cause you're sick. And you're tired. And you need to be alone, away from people.
