Director's Cut

Personally, I think it's pretty good, and I like it a lot.
Let’s talk about the problem first. For more than three hours, I didn’t understand what the core content of the movie was, and it was a bit scattered. The time line is also a little messy, and from time to time there will be a few years in AD, or how many years ago and how many years later such words appear. I think sensible editing and timelines allow for smoother transitions without these deliberate reminders.
And I may be a little face blind, and many characters can't tell who is who. The supporting roles are not fully utilized, the main storyline is already quite vague, the content of the small characters is not much, and there is no small role that is particularly bright in the real sense. Everyone exists in Alexander's world. Alexander is the sun, and the rest are stars. When the sun shines, no one can see the stars. Those little stars are so hidden, maybe it's because I don't understand history, or there are really no other shining figures in the creation of the Alexander Empire in history, in short, the sidelines are not beautiful enough.

I always think there is a lot of room for improvement, but overall it's pretty good.
The cast is very good, there is no shortage of handsome guys and beauties, and the performances are also good. And the presentation of different cultures is also very good, the details of the costumes, props, scenes, etc. are also well handled, and the scenes are okay. The selected characters are also well-cut, and the plot as a whole is not a big problem.
Basic pass, but not outstanding.

    1. Three and a half hours of final cut. The bad impression of watching the 175-minute version from many years ago has been swept away. Another masterpiece ruined by editing. This final version is definitely the best of the epic waves of the early 2000s; 2. It adopts the narrative perspective of old Ptolemy's memories, which is very clever. On the one hand, it gives legitimacy to the jumping timeline; Lemmy's deconstruction of the self-narrative at the end of the credits reinforces Alexander's greatness and tragedy. In addition, it also gives the audience a chance to have a glimpse of the sights of Alexandria in the Ptolemaic era; 3. From the four major battles of Alexander's life, Gaolamiga and Hydaspeis are selected, one end to the other, and the coverage is good , is also enough to shape the complex relationship between Alexander and the generals. The textual research is in place, the battle scenes are grand and bloody, and the visual impact is very strong; 4. The best casting is Jared Leto's Hephaistion and the famous horse race Fleurs who has made a name for himself in history. The imagination popped up in front of you. 5. There is no dwarfing of Alexander to ordinary people to express his tragedy. The most powerful thing in this film is precisely the tragedy it presents, which is unique to Alexander.

Alexander quotes

  • Philip: There's only one thing better than winning a battle, son...

    [he kisses a beautiful girl]

Philip: ... and that's the taste of a new woman. You'll find it far sweeter than self-pity.

  • Aristotle: The East has a way of swallowing men and their dreams, but still to think it's these myths that lead us toward the greatest glory... Why is it wrong to act on them? I can only warn you, not teach you. Beware of what you dream - for the gods have a way of punishing such pride.
