Behind the new bottle of old wine

It was two o'clock in the morning in New Zealand time. After watching this movie, I was stunned for a while, and some words were unpleasant.

We Chinese are not unfamiliar with Tarzan, because it occupied a place in early comics and animations. After all, a human child was raised by an ape in a virgin forest. The story itself does not need to spend too much pen and ink to attract people.

In view of the fact that there have been movies of Tarzan of the ape before, if the director (or author) of this film still wants to bottle old wine, he needs a better entry point. There is no doubt that when Tarzan stepped into human society and returned to nature again, it became very important. A good eye-catching fulcrum.

The story line is still American. But the difference is that some specific era background is added in it. The Belgian King Leopold II was historically real, and the Belgian colonial notification of the Congo was real. However, the film obviously only selected a company as the curtain behind the bottle, and did not mention other countries (perhaps for box office considerations)

because in the real history, not only Belgium, including Portugal, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, etc. The country has been invaded and enslaved in various ways, but Belgium has fast legs and feet. Since the 1870s, more than 400 enslavement treaties have been issued, and the Western colonists finally reached an agreement in the recruitment and partition conference to let Leo Pod II became the monarch of the Congo.

The diamond in the film is only one of the "original sins" of the Congolese people. Important raw materials such as uranium, radium, tin, manganese, etc. and the slave status of these people in the eyes of the Western colonists constitute the entire "original sin".

And the United States where Samuel Jackson is located is actually not a good cake.

Because a considerable part of these raw materials were shipped to the United States, and more importantly, these blacks were sold as slaves to the Americas, which had long been the homeland of whites, because the American continent on the other side of the ocean, with the 300 years after European whites discovered it Here, the number of local indigenous Indians plummeted from more than 40 million to less than 9 million, turning the idyllic Indian world into a terrifying hell on earth, and a lot of treasures and endless resources were ruthlessly plundered. The American diplomat in the film just described some of his own past, which is to fill in the personality integrity of the second male, but behind the words is the tragic fate of the American Indians. Today, the Indians in the United States are only As a living specimen, it is allowed to be visited by the world within a certain range.

The genocide of the Indians was accompanied by the tragic sale of African slaves. The price of slaves sold in the American colonies was 50 to 300 times the price of purchases in Africa!

And this also reflects the cleverness of the Americans. They did not colonize a place as naked as their European predecessors, but adopted a more economical "triangular trade" to give birth to the "Central Route". On this route, Countless ships joined this grand "blood sacrifice feast".

Therefore, in the territory of Africa colonized by the West, you will find that France occupies the northwest corner, the United Kingdom occupies the northeast and southeast, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, and Italy also have their own shares. It has accumulated a lot of wealth, and it has been greatly promoted because of the large number of black immigrants.

Looking back on this, we will find that if we just look at Mount Tai, we can say that he is a fulcrum, a reference, and an inspiring fantasy character for how we humans think about how to live in harmony with nature.
But if, like the author and director of this film, such a character must be placed in such a dark history, our Mr. Ape has become a hypocritical puppet that Westerners are accustomed to. This bottle of beautifully packaged old The mellow aroma has long been lost in the wine, and it is full of blood. As for the unbearable curtain hanging behind it, I feel nauseous...

PS1: I don't know why, when I was writing a film review, I suddenly remembered the Opium War launched by the Western powers, in today's UK In history education, it is called "the Sino-British trade war"

PS2: There are tens of thousands of interpretations of a film, but I chose the one that kills the most film-like scenery. Fortunately, people are soft-spoken, they can’t see it, but they can’t control their heads.

  • George Washington Williams: What I wouldn't give for a horse right now. Why is it people don't ride zebras?

John Clayton: Horses kick to escape. Zebras continue until you are dead.
