You are my friend, my only friend, and it's enough

I have always been in love with animated films. I watched "Mary and Max" two days ago, an Australian original clay animation. The movie is very simple from the storyline to the setting of the scene, and it can even be described as rudimentary. It's about a friendship between an old New York man and a little girl in the Australian countryside through letters. The colors are drab, gray, and there are too many narrations. When I first started watching it, I was a little squeamish, this is obviously not the novel and interesting movie I expected, such as Zombie Bride or Uptown. However, with the in-depth narration of the film, the feelings and emotions became more and more, and at the end of the film, tears were streaming down my face.

Mary, an 8-year-old girl, lives in rural Australia. Chubby, with small freckles on his face, and a poop-like birthmark on his forehead. I like to eat condensed milk and chocolate. I like a cartoon called noblet, because the protagonist in it always has many friends. She has no friends. Secretly in love with a slurred Greek boy next door, but dare not confess to him. Every day, I will receive letters for the veteran who is afraid to go out with a broken leg. There is a dad who only thinks about bird models in addition to work, and a mom who smokes and drinks and likes to "borrow" things from the supermarket.

Max, a lonely 44-year-old, lives in the noisy and chaotic New York City. Has severe autism and often relies on eating to relieve anxiety and panic. I love eating chocolate hot dogs. I also like the cartoon called noblet, because the protagonist in it has many friends. He has an imaginary friend who always sits in the corner and reads the newspaper. His psychiatrist will give him a lot of advice. Trying to control your appetite has no idea. Always buy the same lottery numbers. He has three goals in life: to have a real friend, endless chocolate and all the noblet dolls.

A letter from Mary begins their 20-year friendship. They exchanged recipes for new ways to eat chocolate, photos, and confusions. mary wants to know if the baby in New York came out of a coke can, max wants to know why people always take the trouble to throw cigarette butts, mary doesn't understand why she keeps making fun of herself, max doesn't understand why others see her as weird ...

Max suffers from a severe form of autism, and encounters other anxiety-provoking things every day, such as sudden noise from a crowded crowd, flashing lights, sudden noise, or a strong smell. He doesn't cry, no tears. Mary filled her tears in a jar of condensed milk, a full jar, and sent it to Max.

Although the max in the film is a little too ill, but I can see some shadows of myself in him: I hate loud noises, people and smells, I want to eat hard when I am anxious, and I think people all over the world use it. He looked at himself strangely. In fact, God knows, no one cares about you at all.

Mary can cry and fill a jar with her own tears to send to pen pals, but she can't laugh. Once the teacher criticized her for smiling too much, so her mother painted her face with a big grin with lipstick, but she was laughed at by her classmates. In fact, like Mary's mother, in order not to make ourselves look different from others, we painted ourselves exaggerated smiles, thinking that we could hide our true hearts. In fact, God knows, others have already seen through you.

Mary's father drowned after retiring, and her mother mistaken the poison for fine wine and drank it under the endless daily devastation of alcohol. I think she may be doing it on purpose. After all, self-blame and guilt are too heavy, and death will come easier.

Mary grew up and finally married the Greek boy she had a crush on. She was successful in her studies and published a best-selling medical book with max as a case study. However, max felt betrayed. Their friendship of more than 20 years has reached a freezing point. So Mary blamed herself and started to drink and become decadent. And such mary no longer tempted the Greek boy, so he left her and fled to another country with another person.

Max finally won the jackpot, and he used the winning money to buy chocolates and noblet dolls that he could never eat in a lifetime. Life goals seem to have been achieved. The only regret is that Mary, who used to be his only friend, actually hurt him so much. So he guarded the chocolate that he couldn't eat and got fatter. Mary no longer had any intention of living, and lost her friendship and love at the same time, which made her want to follow her mother.

She put the rope around her neck and hung the other from the beam, and stood on the table and sang. Sing that Que Sera Sera by Pink Martini.

I really like the lyrics of Que Sera Sera, the name of the song is in Spanish, which means things change, let it be, it goes like this:

When I was just a little girl,
I asked my mother, I Ask Mom,
"What will I be? What will I be?
Will I be pretty?
Will I be rich?" Will I be rich?
Here's what she said to me: She said to me:

"Que sera, sera, the world cannot be forced
Whatever will be, will be; let it be.
The future's not ours to see. We cannot foresee the future.
Que sera, sera, Things cannot be forced,
what will be, will be." Let it be.

When I grew up and fell in love. When I grew up and fell in love,
I asked my sweetheart, I asked my sweetheart,
"What lies ahead? What will we be in the future?
Will we have rainbows day after day?" Is life beautiful every day?
Here's what my sweetheart said:

"Que sera, sera, nothing in the world can be forced
Whatever will be, will be; let it be.
The future's not ours to see. We cannot foresee the future.
Que sera, sera, things cannot be forced,
What will be, will be. "Let it be.

Now I have Children of my own.
They ask their mother,
"What will I be?" What will I be like in the future?
Will I be handsome? will be handsome?
Will I be rich? Will they be rich?
I tell them tenderly: I answer softly:

"Que sera, sera, things cannot be forced
Whatever will be, will be; let it be."
The future's not ours to see. We cannot foresee the future.
Que sera, sera, things cannot be forced,
What will be, will be. let it go.
Que Sera, Sera! "Let's go with the flow."

Max finally forgave her, and Mary didn't let her depression beat herself. In his forgiveness letter to mary, max said:

"I forgive you because you're not perfect, you're not perfect. Me too, no one is perfect, not even the people who littered my door. When I was young I wanted to be anything Except for myself, Dr. Bernard Hasshof said that if I was on a desert island, then I would have to adapt to a person's life, just me and Coconut, he said that I had to accept my own shortcomings and all, We cannot choose our faults, they are a part of us, and yet we must adapt to them. However, we can choose our friends, and I am glad to have chosen you."

"Dr. Bernard Hasshof also said that everyone's Life is like a long sidewalk, some neat, others with cracks, banana peels, and cigarette butts like mine, your sidewalk is like mine but probably doesn’t have as many cracks as mine.”

This is one of my favorite words from a letter. . Everyone's life path may not be the same, and there may not be as many cracks as Max and Mary's, but on this sidewalk, there must be some stones or sand, in a certain section of the road, when we step on it, let We feel pain.

Are there cracks in your life? Do you forgive others as you forgive your own shortcomings? Do you regret choosing such a friend?

The ending of the story is that Mary came to Max with a new life, and Max passed away peacefully, leaving Mary with a wall of stationery that was ironed flat. Mary finally sat next to max, holding his cold hand, and the music at the end was The Humming Chorus...

Mary and Max quotes

  • Max Jerry Horovitz: Butts are bad because they wash out to sea, and fish smoke them and become nicotine-dependent. I am just joking, because of course it is impossible for a cigarette to remain lit underwater. Also, fish do not have pockets to keep cigarette lighters in.

  • Max Jerry Horovitz: [to Mary] Have you ever been a communist? Have you ever been attacked by a crow or similar large bird?
