If you stay home too. Tell me your story.

The imaginary enemy in his heart was called out at this moment. Maybe everyone who has been lonely for a long time has an invisible friend who will constantly listen to your complaints and annoyances. Max is lucky that he meets Marry, an ordinary girl who is living a difficult life just like him. The letters have been dating for twenty years. Like any other story, there are twists and turns, laughter and sadness. However, he awakened a deep desire for friendship.
It's not that I don't have friends, and it's not that the people around me are just lively going through the motions. Everyone has everyone's troubles and sorrows. And the person who has the same emotions as you, the so-called confidant. Not everyone can get it. I used to feel reassured when I heard that I understood this word. Now it's just a knowing smile.
Sometimes we are not alone. We just don't have time to say something.
I think that there were many pen pals in the middle school, and the joy of going to the mail room every day to receive letters. Sweat soaked the end of the pen while writing the letter. Even published personal information in magazines to get pen pals. Saying the words in the bottom of my heart. Even if it takes many days for a response. But all this has become very precious. And now, where have you all gone?
Everyone is more or less sick, but most people have some diseases. There are only a few people who have it. If in some corner of the world, you find someone with the same disease as your patient. Then tell each other's own stories, share the joy and share the worries and sorrows together.
The end of the film is not perfect, Max died peacefully. Much more comforting than I thought Marry's suicide missed. But I think a lot of people will cry after watching this movie.
If you stay home too. Tell me your story. Write me a letter, or just write a sentence on a postcard.

Mary and Max quotes

  • Max Jerry Horovitz: Dear Mary, please find enclosed my entire Noblet collection as a sign that I forgive you.

  • Max Jerry Horovitz: [to Mary] Dr. Bernard Hazelhof said if I was on a desert island, then I would have to get used to my own company - just me and the coconuts. He said I would have to accept myself, my warts and all, and that we don't get to choose our warts. They are part of us and we have to live with them. We can, however, choose our friends, and I am glad I have chosen you.
