mary and max——Little warmth in a lonely world

Under the gray sky, in the gray city, the gray crowd slowly wriggles... Forgive me for moving this sentence out again. Yes, I hate grey as much as I hate mosquitoes. But when this mosquito landed on my arm and sucked my blood, I dared not fight it. There are so many tender movies these days. I thought that my poor touch would rarely be wasted in movies - but I saw it.

elliot is a little known as an Australian director, but his previous short film "Harvey Naked" was really good. If you look closely, you can find a lot of Harvey's shadow in it. Based on a true story, Mary and Max is incredibly simple indeed.
The metaphors of some props in the movie are very delicate, such as the little red flowers on Max's head and the expression booklet on his body. The plot is also sublimated just right. For example, at the end of the film, Mary raised her head and looked at the letter she wrote to Max.

Although it is a clay animation, the whole film is actually so depressing, and the black humor throughout makes people laugh. I feel heavy: about the realities of suicide, alcoholism, death, sexuality and mental illness
, about the almost decisive communication between people, and it took me longer to think about and ponder on the 80-minute movie.

After 20 years, the two finally meet, but Max has quietly passed away without waiting for his Mary. Yes, there is not always a perfect ending in real life, just like the narration in the film, although it is bitter, it makes you understand a little bit of life...

ppps:^-^ the universe and man's stupidity. Only the stupidity of the universe and human beings is eternal. This is a quote from Einstein in the film. I like it very much. and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
"Only two things are eternal: the universe and the stupidity of man. I don't know much about the former." (Einstein)

Mary and Max quotes

  • Max Jerry Horovitz: Dear Mary, please find enclosed my entire Noblet collection as a sign that I forgive you.

  • Max Jerry Horovitz: [to Mary] Dr. Bernard Hazelhof said if I was on a desert island, then I would have to get used to my own company - just me and the coconuts. He said I would have to accept myself, my warts and all, and that we don't get to choose our warts. They are part of us and we have to live with them. We can, however, choose our friends, and I am glad I have chosen you.
