"I think therefore I am" my understanding is that what the world means to a person is his connection to the world, that is, family, friends, everyone he knows.
If all the people who mattered to the protagonist were dead, the world's connection to him would be lost, and it would no longer make sense. So the intellectual brain puts his thinking into a more perfect world, is this a good thing? What is lost is just a body, but the mind is forever in a perfect world, where virtual characters are connected, and there is no longer a clear boundary between virtual and reality, right?
It's a life-and-death view worth thinking about.
