Movies about the end of the world have been emerging in an endless stream. In the past two years, from Children of Men, to The day after tomorrow, to 2012, everything that remains in the eyes of the audience, except for the riots, chaos, despair, and the catastrophe of a large-scale production. With war, there is nothing else. Every time I see these, I think, is there really only these left in the end?
Steve Carell is an uncle who has been taking a gentle line. He doesn't watch many scenes. The most impressive one is Evan Almighty (Fake Celestial 2). Keira Knightley is a young and familiar face, Elizabeth Swann, a famous daughter in Pirates of the Caribbean. It seems that two people who don't want to do it at all, plus a dog without a name, perfectly interpret the most tender encounter in the last days.
Dodge is a very gentle, nostalgic, innocent, and very old-fashioned old man, but he is no longer young at the age of 50. He may have only had two women in his life, Olivia and Linda, and abandoned and betrayed him successively, after he gave his true heart. Even in the last 14 days of the earth, he was reluctant to easily sleep with a strange woman (or a friend's wife), or drink, rob, smoke marijuana, or inject heroin. All the so-called crazy things, all the things that people once imagined wanting to do but dared to do, the 14 days of the last days, perfect reasons, nothing is impossible. Nobody is anybody's anything anymore. Why does everybody get to do what they want? But he didn't know what he wanted in the last 14 days. Then he met Penny. A girl squatting outside his window, crying in a mess. She missed the last plane and the last chance to meet her family. One of the most sad reasons in the last days, Dodge accepted her without hesitation. The way she was sleeping quietly and unguardedly on his sofa moved him. I love animals very much, so when Dodge attempted suicide and picked up a dog and went home, I completely fell in love with this old man. He found food for him, took it with him after the riot, and fled with Penny.
They all have the last wish, lover and family. Dodge received a letter from Olivia who was three months late, confirming that she was still in love with him, and felt as if he knew what he wanted. Penny wants to go home, she misses her family. So they walked all the way, got to know each other all the way, met all kinds of people and things all the way, and saw everything in the world all the way. There are also many tender details. Penny cried and called home; she helped Dodge open the door of Olivia's house; Dodge helped Penny find the record player, and he also slept with the dog. After traveling all the way, he found her simple heart, she found his gentle tolerance, and they found that each other might be the last person to be together. Suddenly thought of "Love in the Allure", the fall of a city made Bai Liusu's marriage and love. Perhaps it is in such a special and specific environment that it is easier for people to see the other person and their hearts, and then they know what they really want.
In the last days, with the demise of human civilization and the disappearance of the earth, each of us will become a past without existence. No tombstones, no memorials. We don’t even have time to know who I am and why I exist. Infinitely sad. If riots, chaos, and despair are added to this sadness, it will only aggravate the infinite sadness of mankind. Rather than that, we might as well see our heart clearly and see the true beauty in the last time.
I have imagined more than once, if the end of the world comes, what will be done. If possible, I will try my best to survive; if not, I will probably be as peaceful as Dodge and Penny, staying with my family as usual, doing what I should do, taking care of every pet, and after every one day. Sometimes, human beings are really fragile; but from another angle, the beauty in human hearts will not be compromised by human fragility.
