I originally planned to watch the movie before going to the UK, but I only finished watching the first season today. Very exciting, very touching. First of all, the film is loyal to history, and even the choice of actors is very similar to historical figures, so it can be seen that it is troublesome.
This film portrays humanity vs. duty very well, and it made me begin to understand the difficulty of the royal family. The last episode of Gloriana especially touched me, Princess Margaret had to give up love for duty.
More importantly, King who gave up the throne said i'm always half king but without kingdom. This sentence is clear: even if you choose to give up, your innate identity will not let you go, you are still the King who once gave up the throne in the public eye, and the King who gave up the throne, this shadow will always follow. In other words, they have no choice at all, and they can't throw it away.
It reminds me of Prince Harry and Meghan who recently opted out of the royal family, and the tolerance and support they have been given to them was unimaginable decades ago. I have also come to understand how terrifying and depressing the shackles of dogma and institution are on human nature, and I have also seen how hard-won social progress is, which also made me think again about the question that I have been thinking about recently: what is push for progress? the best way? Is it aggressive or peaceful?
I also saw the incomprehension of the queen herself, Phillip struggling in her shadow. And each position has the particularity of each position, whether it can perform its own duties, or even jump out of itself, is a great knowledge. You are not you. You are the Crown.
Great work.
