For the integrity of the soul, even if life is lost

Many people didn't like this movie for various reasons, but I was deeply moved by it. When Gnada went to the train station to send Al for surgery, Lily felt that she was complete and died without regrets, which made me cry. I think this movie does not need to use the head to analyze the plot calmly, but only needs to use the heart to experience the emotions of the characters at the end of the play, those struggles and desires, and the courage to fight for the integrity of the soul rather than lose their lives. I don't understand why so many people think that Gnada's equal love and dedication to Al and Lily is the director's contempt for women. I understand and deeply admire Gnada's actions. Is it the most reasonable behavior for her to leave her husband alone? Leaving aside the two protagonists, the most lovable character should be Hans, Al's childhood friend.
When I first watched it, I was so moved that I couldn't help myself, but this movie lacks aftertaste, and everything is basically used up after watching the movie, so I'll give it four stars.

The Danish Girl quotes

  • Dr. Hexler: Tell me about Lili... Where did she come from?

    Einar Wegener: Inside of me.

  • Gerda Wegener: It's hard for a man to be looked at by a woman. Women are used to it, of course, but for a man to submit to a woman's gaze - it's unsettling. Although I believe there's some pleasure to be had from it, once you yield.
