Summary: In 1926, Copenhagen, landscape painter Einar and portrait painter Gerda were man and wife. Because the model failed to keep an appointment one afternoon and Gerda must complete her work, so she convinced her husband to wear dress and stockings helping her. This accident let Einar generated a female character Lily, meanwhile this Lily in Gerda's painting make her rise to fame. With the hidden individuality, Einar gradually hated his identity, realizing that it's Lily that is true himself. At last, with the support of Gerda, Einar had transsexual operation, being a true herself.
Reflection: People are looking for true yourself and being true yourself all his life. The moment you realized true yourself is not difficult, it's the lengthy process you must become better that make you fearful and even lost your head. There is nothing we can do only must have numerous and deeply reflection or doubt. Einar finally became Lily. It's better to say return rather than change. However, can we really do what we want? Can we truly be who we are?
From my own perspective, Gerda is an great artist, even more is a great woman. All her pious love and encouragement supporting her stronger husband and stronger. Only the true love can accompany us and guard us as always. Love in Gerda's eyes is about kind and getle. “Can you do something for me?” “Anything.” “I wish nothing but the best for you.”
Therefore, the respond and the last word of Lily is: “How have I ever deserved such love.” And then she died peacefully and composed. It makes me tearful.

The Danish Girl quotes

  • Dr. Hexler: Tell me about Lili... Where did she come from?

    Einar Wegener: Inside of me.

  • Gerda Wegener: It's hard for a man to be looked at by a woman. Women are used to it, of course, but for a man to submit to a woman's gaze - it's unsettling. Although I believe there's some pleasure to be had from it, once you yield.
