I feel that the old version is better in terms of portraying the role of mother. A woman who has fallen into distorted teachings because of her distorted understanding of sex will use the teachings to restrain, suppress, and punish her daughter. After reading the new version, my feeling is that the mother seems to have been violated by some evil force and became pregnant, because she turned to religion, and because of this, her daughter has a strong power.
In terms of storyline, the new version seems to have a touch of humanity and positive force. The teacher who helped the heroine did not die, and many classmates escaped from the dance scene. And the girl who asked her boyfriend to date Carrie was motivated by her own kindness, not because she woke up after being scolded by the teacher like the old version.
From the setting of the scene, the old version pays more attention to the suggestion of religious meaning, whether it is the candles lit everywhere, or the mother's death surrounded by candles, the death of a cross, or the "Last Supper" with dinner as the background. Especially unforgettable is that when my mother died, she was as beautiful as an oil painting.
