Covert subversion

Franz Lang tried to educate his descendants in a number of black films in the 1940s and 1950s. You can achieve a hidden subversion of the mainstream value without basically breaking the Hollywood genre model.

1. Extorting a confession by
torture is not new, but the subversive point of this film is that the presentation of the picture is very "eye-catching": the thugs repeatedly hit Pierce's face from the left side of the screen, and punched hard. It was so big that it made its head appear instantly; secondly, it was the identity of the presiding judge at that time. It was learned from the finale that the head who allowed to interrogate violence was ultimately a white Dao from the inside out—the big killer in "Ice and Blood Storm". On the contrary, it was the traitor who came in from outside the house to stop the thugs from continuing their brutal attacks. In other words, those who abuse violence are "good guys"!

2. National security personnel are extremely unprofessional.
The first manifestation is that it does not follow the rules and makes its own way. It is strictly forbidden to bring guns into the house, but the black guards shuddered and did not hand over the guns in their socks, which eventually led to prison riots. But on the other hand, the prison party also has an inescapable responsibility: he said it would be handed over? Can't you just scan it with the machine? After that, it was the black guard who acted recklessly again and trapped the master and servant in a confined, hypoxic, confined space... But the reason why it was a concealed subversion rather than an explicit painful presentation was that the black man later wanted the first lady Save more than two mouthfuls of oxygen and kill yourself. The intuitive shock of self-sacrifice easily conceals the deeper guilt of the previous failure. In addition, the sideline plot that is always on the non-Pierce side also makes this person's negative perception (triggering riots, reckless and harming the owner) effectively downplayed.

3. Who is the culprit for messing up negotiations to resolve the crisis?
The negotiator with eyes is the most injustice who died in the film. Originally the advantage was on his side. Not only is the timing of the appearance just right, the identity of the sister has not been exposed, and the other party cannot use this as a bargaining chip; but the negotiation skills are also proficient: "Hand over a hostage to show sincerity, such as a woman, or someone who has been injured. In short, It's up to you to decide!" Although in the bones it is directly naming a sister, but on the surface, the impression given to the other party is that it has no specific purpose and conforms to the most basic moral common sense in the hostage crisis. But at the moment when the situation has been positively changed to an optimistic direction, unexpected things happened: 1. The unconstrained lunatic brother had to prevent his sister from going on the road and shot (in fact, killed) the female assistant. In this regard, the boss has nothing to do. 2. The US military's two-line operations are seriously out of coordination. Negotiations are still going on over there. The one-man action team here is already boarding the station. It was so swaggering that it was quickly discovered by the guards. The negotiation broke down completely, and the situation took a sharp turn toward the criminals’ hostages, jade and stone... But all of this, especially the first one. The essence of the problem pointed out at point 2 is, like the mistakes of the Guoan personnel above, it is also hidden under the genre model of "lone heroes appear on the stage, difficulties and obstacles, and good shows are about to be connected", so the audience at this time is induced not to divide. Concentrate on thinking about the true nature of the event.

4. Family misunderstandings
In traditional Hollywood blockbusters, the perfection of family affection and family responsibilities that were once missing are often the magic weapon to save major crises and disasters. This film has carried out a considerable degree of subversion of this mainstream ideology. In the space station, the criminal boss was quite clear at first. He once pressed the madman’s head and warned loudly, “All the employees here, including this woman, are our shields, don’t get rid of this bargaining chip!”, but when a lunatic press the button to attack the spaceship, even shoot the woman. When faced with the strong question of his brothers "Why don't you put the lunatic first?", he reluctantly replied, "He is my brother." And in order to highlight the shortcomings rather than simple character weakness or stupidity, the director also specially laid out an episode of ruthlessly killing off dissidents; on earth, it is the US president who is also trapped by family affection. Originally speaking a little more strictly, this prison riot would not have broken out without the innocent humanitarian whim of his precious daughter. When it came time to face a major national crisis, the president was hesitant to decide whether to shoot the special forces to rescue all the hostages or just save his daughter. And the crisis of family relationship faced by the leaders of both sides of the "enemy and us" reached its climax in a cross-contrast approach near the end: here, the younger brother’s awl pierced his brother’s chest; over there, the presidential power was temporarily imprisoned. deprivation!

5. Saving Meicheng is precious, and the price of exemption is higher!
Why did the first sister get her hair cut and dyed black? Because Pierce had to dress up with her to find his friend who hid the suitcase for him. But this is not the purpose of his being sent to the space station! He should have only one purpose, to find a sister and bring her back to earth safely. Of course, when things have developed to this point, the responsibility does not seem to be entirely on him. Pierce's initial plan after saving his sister was to go their separate ways, and was not prepared to "drag the other party into the water." But even so, his behavior is contrary to professional ethics. Because saving people was the first task he promised, not to mention that the other party was still a weak woman who was injured. So in any case, sending her safely out of the space station was Pierce's only choice at the time. Obviously, Pierce's selfish impulse at that moment surpassed chivalry! But the reason for the relatively mild revelation is that the director laid out an excuse early: he was wronged!

6, a sister chooses to stay
Lang's "Miss of the Moon" also has a similar plot. But the emotions conveyed there are warm and touching, and the film not only blocked the emotional stereotypes of the heroes and heroines falling in love, but also quickly ironed the dedication: not only was the hostage not saved, but the two The location is still exposed! It should be said that the director of the film is deliberately killing the warmth and romance. The awkward posture of the two in the middle of the fall, the closing line at the end uses the technique of the bed. Then came the girl’s hearty laugh...

7. Seeing may not be true
"I saw him kill Frank with my own eyes." What I saw with my own eyes may not be true, such as the raid on Bin Laden’s hiding place by a US military helicopter.

The only bright spot is that the male lead’s lines are rather funny, the ending of the whole film is too cramped, and the personal heroism is also very strong. Let’s be a refreshment after dinner...

B-level, pseudo-sci-fi, Pierce is still happy enough.
