The war divides the two worlds. The crocodiles swimming towards the water, the birds rising from the lake at sunset, the sloths climbing on the trees, the singing of the indigenous people, the slapstick of children, this is a peaceful and peaceful world that witt yearns for; on the other side, The dense bullets pass through the grass and woods, shoot into people's bodies, and the bayonet pierces deeply into people's flesh and blood... These are two completely different worlds, but they both take place in this beautiful world. When witt lived with the indigenous people, he asked the woman holding the child, are you afraid of me? The woman replied, afraid, because you look like a soldier. Later, when Witt returned to the village with the army, he tried to shake hands with a child, but he was greeted with fearful eyes, and the peace and tranquility of this world no longer existed.
War makes people crazy. Whether Americans or Japanese, in the face of war, bloody killing and dreadful death, they all become terrifyingly silent. Some people shrink back, some people go crazy, and no one can escape these. This is war. War makes love Interrupted, although Bell believes that love is not destroyed by the conquest of war, the fact is that his wife has a new love like most lonely women, his belief is shattered, there is no eternal thing in this world, time can destroy everything.
Why war? A struggle for power and desire? Maybe. Seeing all this clearly, you may be able to peacefully pursue death like witt.
1.witt:what's the war in the heart of nature? why does the nature vie with itself? the land contend with the sea? Is there an avengaing power in nature? not one power but two?
2.Witt(at the village) :I remember my mother when she was dying looked all shrunk up and gray, I asked her if she was afraid, she just shook her head. I was afraid to touch her death I seen in her, I couldn't find nothing beautiful or uplifting about her going back to god. I heard people talk about immortality, but I ain't seen it...I wondered how it'd be when I died, what it'd be like to know that this breath now was the last one you was ever gonna draw. I jst hope I can meet it the same way she did, with the same caim. cause that's where it's hidden, the immortality I hadn't seen.
3. Colonel(with general): all they sacriface for me, poured out like water on the ground. all I might have given for love's sake. too late..dying..slow like a tree.the closer you are to caesar, the greater the fear.
4.Bell(memory with his wife):you are glory, mercy, peace, truth, you give calm a sprit, understanding, courage, the contended heart...
5.Witt(by the river): everyone look for salvation by himself, each like a coan thrown from the fire..
6.witt: hours like months, days like years, walked into the golden age, stood on the shores of a new world.
7.Captain(leaving) : you are my sons, my dear sons, you live inside me now, I carry you whereever I go.
8.witt: can't nothing make you foget it, each time you start from scratch.war don't ennoble men, turns them to dogs, poisons the soul.
9.Bell(memories): my dear wife, you get something twisted out of your insides, by all this blood, filth and noise. i want to stay changes for you, i want to come back to you the man i was before, how do we get to those other shores, to those blue hills? love, where does it come from? who did this flame in us, no war can put it out, conquer it. I was a prisoner, you set me free.
10.witt: we were a family, had to break up and come apart, so that now we're turned against each other. each standing in the other's light, how did we lose the good that was given us, let it slip away, sacttered, careless, what's keeping us from reaching out, touch the glory ?
11. Welsh: one man looks at a dying bird and think there is nothing but unanswering pain, that death's got the final word, it's laughing at him, another man sees that same bird, feels the glory, feels something smiling through it.
12. welsh:they want you dead, or in their lie, only one thing a man can do ,find something that's his, make an island for himself. If i never meet you in this life, let me feel the lack.A giance from your eyes ,and my life will be yous...
13.witt: where is it that we were together? who were you that i lived with, walked with? the brother, the friend, darkness and light, stife and love, are they the workings of one mind, the features of the same face? Oh my soul ,let me be in you now, look out through my eyes, look out at the things you made, all things shining.
