The movie "Detective Allan Poe: The Murder of the Black Crow" centers on Poe and tells the story of a series of murders committed by the murderer following the murder method in his work.
Because the screenwriter incorporates the plots of several Poe’s works into the film’s story, before writing a film review, I think I should provide a summary of those works, so that I am not familiar with Poe’s reasoning works but are interested in entering. Some background information for the audience watching this movie.
The English name of the movie, The Raven, is a poem written by Poe in 1845. It is about a man who lost his lover and was made almost crazy by a crow who came late at night and knew how to talk.
The original text is as follows:
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore —
While I nodded , nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"Tis some visiter," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door —
Only this and nothing more."
In addition, in the movie, the sections of the novel imitated when the murderer committed the murder come from the following books:
"Murg Street Murders in the Rue Morgue
-This is a story about a murder in a secret room. The victim is a mother and a daughter. The mother's throat was cut to death, and the daughter's body was stuffed into the chimney. As for how the murderer escaped when the door was locked and the window was nailed, I will sell it here because it also involves the bridge section of the movie. If it is revealed, it will be boring to watch.
"The Pit and the Pendulum" (The Pit and the Pendulum)-In the
story, the prisoner is tied to a cell. The ceiling is a portrait that symbolizes time, and a huge sickle that swings like a pendulum is dropped. The sickle kept moving down, and the prisoner's life was hanging by a thread.
"The Masque of the Red Death" (The Masque of the Red Death)
-The plague of Red Death spread rapidly in a certain city, and countless people died. The nobles in the city ignored the plight of the people and continued to live a luxurious life in their castles.
One day, the prince held a grand ball and designed the castle into seven rooms with different themed colors, one of which was as deep as blood.
The nobles gathered together, no one dared to enter the room. Suddenly, they found a mysterious guest wearing a black robe and facial makeup like a corpse appeared in front of them, frightening the guest to evade in a hurry.
The prince chased him to the blood-colored room, suddenly let out a scream, and died at the hands of the guest.
Everyone finally subdued him, and when the mask and robes were revealed, it was empty. It turned out that the mysterious guest was the incarnation of Red Death. The moment the mask robe was revealed, the virus spread and infected all the guests.
"The Mystery of Marie Rogêt" (The Mystery of Marie Rogêt)-A
female body is found on the banks of the Seine-Marne. This story is based on an actual case that occurred in New York, and the case has so far become an unsolved case.
The Cask of Amontillado (The Cask of Amontillado)
-This is a story about the protagonist plotting to kill him because he was insulted by his friend Fortunato.
I am not going to list the contents of the last two stories in detail, because the contents of the stories are not helpful to the understanding of the "God" film. Both of these stories only helped Poe to infer the next step of the murderer.
I think some movies can clearly understand the ins and outs from the details of the plot. However, movies such as "Detective Allan Poe: Murder of the Black Crow" are based on a lot of background information, so it is best to understand the above before watching. Only when you watch the film, you will be more involved in the plot of the film.
