Surely he should have won.

The most test of an actor is estimated to be a close-up of the face. In this movie, Oldman has a lot of facial close-ups, because his acting skills can support the whole story.

The eyes when expressing anger, the excited and trembling hands, the tears that could not help falling when the people were moved, the helplessness and panic that the king showed when he came to him for the last time, all these were well represented.

Watching his performance is watching a piece of history.

The only time I tried riding the Underground was during the General Strike. Clemmie dropped me off at South Kensington station. I went down but got lost. I came straight back up! It was awful.

  • [having accepted the post of Prime Minister, Churchill must now have regular meetings with the King]

Sir Anthony Eden: You only have to meet him once a week.

Winston Churchill: But that's like saying you only have to have your tooth pulled once a week.
