There is no final success and no fatal failure

"There is no ultimate success, and there is no fatal failure. The most valuable thing is the courage to keep going." I believe that if this sentence is not from Churchill's mouth, it is difficult to convince people. Under Hitler's brutal rule, in the midst of the German army pressing every step of the way, and when all the soldiers were trapped on the front line, he led the British people to resist fascism through his own actions and extraordinary talent for language.

Before watching this film, I saw "Dunkirk" directed by Nolan, about the Allied forces from Britain, Belgium, France, and Canada were trapped in Dunkirk by the Germans. Churchill gave a speech, inspiring the people to fight to the end and encouraging the people to use their own boats to rescue the soldiers on the front line. After eight days, almost all of the more than 300,000 soldiers were rescued.

The film tells the story of Churchill's process of leading the people to revolt without the support of the cabinet around him when he was in danger. In this video, we show us a more civilian Churchill, his casualness, his fears, his sadness, and his persistence are all shown in front of us one by one. A man of flesh and blood, but his spirit shines brightly.

A great man is great not because he is not afraid, but because he knows he may fail but still has the determination to fight to the end. The dignitaries around him were thinking about peace negotiations with Germany. He saw clearly the real purpose of the German army, went to the subway to listen to the opinions of the people, and went to the outer cabinet to contact the inner thoughts of most people. Ultimately, he firmed up his own mind, telling the people of the whole country, "We will fight in France, we will fight in the sea, we will fight in the air with increasing confidence and strength, We will defend our homeland at all costs, we will fight on the beaches, we will fight on enemy landings, we will fight in the fields and in the streets, we will fight in the mountains. We will never surrender.”

It is true that there is no permanent success in life, no matter what age or situation we are in, there is no perfect situation. But if we encounter failure, we must also tell ourselves that there is no eternal failure, there will always be a day when a bright light shines in. Each of us is constantly walking on the road of life, and there will always be those "darkest moments" in our life, but we must have the courage to move forward, which is the most important.

Great history, great characters, great acting.

Full, powerful, orderly, yet lively, with a limited number of scenes, repeated speeches, quarrels, debates, no fancy skills, just the right soundtrack, and a solid feature film. Gary Oldman gave a "palace" performance that propped up the entire movie. @Werner Herzog Theatre

Darkest Hour quotes

  • Winston Churchill: [in his first speech as Prime Minister] But now one bond unites us all. To wage war until victory is won, and never to surrender ourselves to servitude and shame. Whatever the cost and the agony may be, conquer we must, as conquer we shall.

  • Winston Churchill: Do I have your, uh, permission, uh, to send, uh, an aircraft carrier to pick up the P-40 fighter planes we purchased from you? Mr. President?

President Roosevelt: Well, you-you've got me there again. New law preventing transshipment of military equipment.

Winston Churchill: Uh, but we paid for them. We-we paid for them with the money that we... that we borrowed from you.
