Soderbergh was nominated for the Best Director Oscar for this film and "Drug Network" at the same time, but his directing style is not outstanding here (maybe because the audiovisual is not as "non-mainstream" as his other works). The script, like other Austrian films, belongs to the three-act drama type that accurately grasps the emotional changes of the audience (putting such an emotional scene as hearing the daughter's speech at the mid-point, how could it not be a three-act drama lol). What makes this film unique is also due to the wonderful characterization. Erin Brockovich is probably the most impressive female screen image I've ever seen. Throughout the movie Erin is using her actions and words to break other people's stereotypes about her, cuz you know, who would think a blonde girl is smart and decisive? x
Although the trick of "creating contrast" is not uncommon, it is not easy to handle it like the screenwriter of this film. At the same time, because the character of this character is so different, she doesn't even have a character arc (forgive me but I cant get over with it anymore lol), what has changed are the characters around her who are influenced by her. Come to think of it, other similar biopics seem to do the same
