This movie is by far my favorite Stanley Kubrick work, tied with Dr. Strangelove

Dr. Strangelove (1964)
8.8
1964 / USA UK / Drama Comedy Wars / Stanley Kubrick / Peter Sellers George C. Scott

When I watched the movie, I didn't know what Path of Glory was referring to until I saw this version of the poster

"Road to Glory"

A sharp irony, for the sake of promotion and self-interest, giving soldiers an impossible task regardless of their lives

The absurd war inevitably failed. Even so, there must be three scapegoats. Captain Dax's speech at the military court was so wonderful that the literary drama caught the audience's attention even more than the war part.

I had hoped that Dax's perfect defense would turn things around, but even if everyone was silent, the tragedy of the three was doomed

Three innocent soldiers died for unknown reasons in the sound of music and the whole army watched. Among them, one was in a coma.

The road in the trench covered with blood and corpses or the road leading to the execution ground by soldiers who died for unknown reasons, which one is the "Road to Glory"?

"I've been ashamed of being a human being several times and this will be once"

Paths of Glory quotes

  • Colonel Dax: Let me get this straight, sir. You're offering me General Mireau's command?

General Broulard: Come, come, Colonel Dax. Don't overdo the surprise. You've been after the job from the start. We all know that, my boy.

Colonel Dax: I may be many things, sir, but I am not your boy.

General Broulard: Well, I certainly didn't mean to imply any biological relationship.

  • General Broulard: Colonel Dax, I'm going to have ten men from each company in your regiment tried under penalty of death for cowardice.

Colonel Dax: Penalty of death? - For cowardice!

General Broulard: They've skim milk in their veins instead of blood.

Colonel Dax: It's the reddest milk I've ever seen. My trenches are soaked with it!
