"Road to Glory"

(Personal essay, informal film review)

1. The long shot of visiting soldiers in the trenches shortly after the opening has a feeling of deja vu, especially with a little music, it is especially ironic! It's like watching a domestic anti-Japanese movie when I was a child, and the devils enter the village!

2. "The captain is the most individual in the French army." As a soldier, isn't it the first thing to obliterate personality?

3. A level-by-level order, accompanied by expectations and disappointments, can only bite the bullet and take over the task. This is like a familiar joke. A unit takes over a project, then contracts it to the next level, and then subcontracts it to the next level. Level 1, then I gave it to a cook, and finally this is a tofu dregs project

4. Brainwashing military orders, wine is strong and cowardly, Xiawei is also a coward, but there is no way, after all, in the face of death and war, the only blame can be blamed for the low rank

5. A few soldiers jumped over obstacles to carry out the reconnaissance mission. The cutscene is used in many Kubrick movies. It makes people feel very depressed. Exposed in a second!

6. Before going to the battlefield, the two soldiers were discussing that they were not afraid of death, but were afraid of being injured. It was better to be slaughtered than to be shot by machine guns. It sounded cruel and familiar. Because the war has distorted many people's view of life and death!

7. The most senior general is a laughing tiger. It is said that people who love to laugh will not have bad luck, but they are too stupid!

8. In fact, in the trenches, the officer was timid and wanted to retreat, then threw a thunderbolt to kill his teammates, and came back to argue with another corporal. This process is exactly the same as the conflict between the captain and the general.

9. Don't look for the cause of the problem, just look for the person who bears the result of the problem! It's the same logic as not solving the problem, just solving...

10. The trial of these three people is very similar to the scene where Zhou Xingchi's domestic Ling Lingqi was shot. Before, in Tang Bohu's point of Qiuxiang, there was also a spoof scene that used Kubrick's full metal shell. Like Kubrick movies?

11. "If you repent now, you will be like a hypocrite." This paragraph is still very human. It may be because of the age. When you have to face the fear of death, except for crying, there is not much depression. Maybe during the war. In the middle, the three have long been used to seeing life and death!

12. Captain is a man of understanding

13. I feel that the soundtrack always has some sarcasm in it

14. In the military, all moral standards are "0"

15. The road to the execution ground is long! The cry was harsh and disturbing!

16. Ridiculous, I was expecting someone to stop all this before I left, until a group of people opened fire, and then there was a dinner conversation between the two upper-level executives. Everything went so smoothly, it made people shudder!

14. The singing of the last German girl is to make everyone calm down and think about the meaning of the war and what just happened, and before the singing ends, the war begins again...

15. Long live patriotism ................................

Ps. Michael Douglas looks so much like his dad!

Stanley Kubrick's films have a certain temperament, and "Path of Glory" discusses a lot of things, and there is still the kind of temperament of Kubrick in it, about honor, leadership, faith, and even death, true, wait. Appreciate Kubrick's style, although this film is not the most Kubrick! PS. Kirk Douglas was really like his son when he was young!

Kubrick's works before he became a Martian are the taste of traditional masters. Layers of trench iron nets, lonely whistles accompanied by regular and dull artillery fire, the soldiers crawled towards the enemy line as slow as beasts. Human-flesh confrontation, betting on the offensive magic of reputation and official luck! The last part is a classic, the song of the terrified girl, the cannon fodder with the obscene face a minute ago shed pure tears. This resonance can only exist in the bar, not into the commander's ears.

Paths of Glory quotes

  • [first lines]

Narrator of opening sequence: War began between Germany and France on August 3rd 1914. Five weeks later the German army had smashed its way to within eighteen miles of Paris. There the battered French miraculously rallied their forces at the Marne River and in a series of unexpected counterattacks drove the Germans back. The front was stabilized then shortly afterwards developed into a continuous line of heavily fortified trenches zigzagging their way five hundred miles from the English Channel to the Swiss frontier. By 1916, after two grisly years of trench warfare, the battle lines had changed very little. Successful attacks were measured in hundreds of yards, and paid for in lives, by hundreds of thousands.

[Col. Dax listens to his regiment humming in the tavern]

    Sgt. Boulanger: Sir?

    Colonel Dax: Yes, sir.

Sgt. Boulanger: We have orders to move back to the front immediately.

Colonel Dax: Well give the men a few minutes more, Sergeant.

    Sgt. Boulanger: Yes, sir.
