This film probably tells the story of Mr. Dundee the Crocodile, a "good friend of nature" living in the wilderness of Australia. After being interviewed by reporter Miss Su from New York, he went to New York with her and made a series that did not fit the image of New York. The story of "weird behavior" that finally won the heart of the beauty when he was about to leave.
The collision of two cultures with very different styles is bound to produce some wonderful sparks. Mr. Crocodile Dundee possesses the rugged and unrestrained nature of the Australian aboriginals and the reverence for nature, but Miss Su is a typical "city girl". These two people are in completely different worlds, but in the process of mutual understanding and communication, they have love and reached the highest level of culture tolerance.
Mr. Dundee is brave, smart, humorous and outspoken. He is polite to ladies. A typical Australian gentleman, he is not the same type as a New York City gentleman. Su’s fiancé, Richard, is in sharp contrast with Mr. Dundee, and looks a little artificial and not "many" enough. When having dinner with Mr. Dundee in an Italian restaurant, Richard had an expression of contempt, despising Mr. Dundee for not recognizing Italian. Although Mr. Dundee has never been in the city, he is very friendly to every New Yorker and spread his Australian hospitality to New Yorkers.
In the end, Su’s running and the passing of words in the subway station are the most classic and moving scenes, symbolizing the complete integration of the two cultures, and also embodying the theme of the movie.
