Bloody plot, real sexual desire

People cannot suppress their own desires. The film "Instinct" directed by Paul Verhoeven tells the story of a rock dancer who is killed while having sex. Police officer Nick is in charge of the case. Nick brought the deceased's girlfriend, Katherine, to the interrogation. She admitted to having sex with the deceased, but denied harming him. The glamorous and sexy Kathryn teases Nick on purpose or not, and tells him that she is writing a novel about the police. Nick discovered that the murder scene in one of her novels was exactly the same as the one in this case, and he intuitively told him that Catherine was the murderer. As the investigation deepens, he can't help but fall in love with Katherine, playing dangerous and exciting games.

Overall it was a failure. After 90 minutes of smooth suspenseful narrative, the dramatic effect of the filming has also been achieved, but the revealing of the last 30 minutes has a step-by-step decline from the previous expression. No matter in the editing or the emotions of the characters, it all failed to achieve the desired effect. (The phrase "I love you" is especially obvious) (I don't know if it was forced to shorten because of the length of the film or there are other reasons) Even if I finally know what I want to express, it has been destroyed by the bad rhythm of the last 30 minutes. The sheer amount of drama built up throughout the first 90 minutes turned out to be weird by the end. Instead, it makes you feel uncomfortable. (If he wanted to choose to show an unreleased emotion at the end, then the film's final presentation was quite a failure.) But it is worth noting that all the sex scenes directed by Paul Van Herwen in the film are expressing a kind of The wrestling, calculation, and danger that lie between characters, rather than just expressing romantic emotions like sexiness or sexual pleasure.

(Your film grammar seems to be heavily influenced by Hitchcock?) "Probably all of my films are unknowingly influenced by Hitchcock because I studied him thoroughly in my twenties. Ecstasy Remember North by Northwest and the Rear Window, I've seen each of them about fifteen to twenty times. I think of Instinct as a Hitchcock movie in the '90s. If he was alive, he would have bought it without hesitation. The script goes to shoot. Total Recall is North by Northwest. Schwarzenegger is caught in an adventure that has nothing to do with him, and he's the wrong guy."

Basic Instinct quotes

  • John Correli: Did you kill Mr Boz, Miss Tramell?

Catherine: I'd have to be pretty stupid to write a book about killing and then kill him the way I described in my book. I'd be announcing myself as the killer. I'm not stupid.

  • Nick: Writing a book about it gives you an alibi for not killing him.

Catherine: Yes it does, doesn't it?
