The original script of "Dust and Mist Home" comes from the best-selling novel of the same name published in 1999 by Andre Dubus III, the son of the original author of "In the Bedroom". The themes that the novel attempts to reveal are: Sometimes it is not hatred that destroys our lives, but the hope we have. The two protagonists in the story, one is to keep the hope left by their unhappy husband, and the other is to realize the American dream that they have longed for. Two people who are not related to each other suddenly stand opposite to each other. So as to completely destroy their original lives.

This film sees the superb acting skills of Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley. Ben Kingsley received an Oscar nomination for best actor. Personally think that Jennifer Connelly's performance is also at the level of being nominated for Oscar for Best Actress.

The director Perlman was born in the former Soviet Union. He left his hometown with his mother at the age of 10 and went to Vienna and Rome. After a long stretched life, the mother and son were finally able to settle down in Canada. This long and unforgettable wandering past made Perlman's various bitterness and difficulties as an expatriate also deeply understood the infinite desire of an outsider for the concept of "homeland". Therefore, he has such a strong resonance with the characters in the story. Because of this, he was able to portray a character like Colonel of the Iranian diaspora in such a profound and touching way.

Also won an Oscar nominations for best soundtrack and best supporting actress.
