A dog is an animal, not a person, so it's easy to build a reliable conditioned reflex, and that's what the Lightning Dog does. Living in a Hollywood world and putting himself on the spot as Superman because he doesn't understand what stunts are, can't blame him.
In real life, there are also many people who live in their own "Hollywood". They always say what they are in their minds and mouths, but when they really face it, they are nothing.
