In retrospect, Orphan's plot wasn't very good, and the visual effects were nothing new, but Isabelle's acting skills were amazing. For example, the first meeting with John in the orphanage made it feel more like two people. The meeting between grown men and women, the decent manners and the angelic smile naturally attracted the adoptive father, but it made the onlookers extremely uneasy. It's not easy to make an actor a bright spot in a horror movie, I wonder if the director did it on purpose.
Thought-provoking is the family in the film. The seemingly enviable lovers hide too many scars and crises. John's past cheating made the trust between husband and wife like walking a tightrope. Kate's past drinking and nearly causing Max to drown are the shadows that cannot be erased in their hearts. And the fact that the daughter was stillborn is more like the hair of the sea monster, entangling them, surrounding them, and dragging them into the endless darkness. Esther is only the trigger for the disaster, not the whole disaster. John's vulnerability and turmoil had a reason, but it made him feel relieved when he was stabbed to death, not sympathy and regret.
I don't really like the ending of Esther's death in the ice cave. The open ending will have more aftertaste, at least it will be convenient to make a sequel after the hit. Esther's death wouldn't be the end of Kate's nightmare. It might be better to replace that boring fight with a mental battle between Kate and Esther, and maybe make the characters more full.
Isabelle should be popular in the future, and Max, who is like an angel, will definitely make the little actor unforgettable.
