1. John Kramer (Jigsaw), the owner of the chainsaw door, known as the old man
John himself is engaged in the construction industry, his business is prosperous, and his family is rich. He is good at mechanical design, and he is also proficient in psychology and pharmacology.
John's wife, Jill, is enthusiastic about helping drug addicts, but John sees that addicts are taking advantage of his wife's love. As a man of fortitude and self-reliance, he believes that people who do not intend to change cannot be saved. But because of his deep love for his wife, he helped her open a rescue station.
Soon, John, who was at the peak of his career, was hit hard. First, his beloved wife was accidentally injured by the drug addict he helped, leading to a miscarriage of his only child; then, he himself was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and time is running out. In desperation, he divorced his wife and planned to use a car accident to kill the life, but after the attempt, he suffered more in the accident. The ruthlessness of the hospital, the ingratitude of the drug addict, and the dehumanization of the insurance company all made him feel disgusted. The life that I cherish is still passing by a little bit, but the society is full of people who practice their own lives and the lives of others. John found that the whole society was lifeless, and no one cherished what they had on hand. He no longer asks for death, but is determined to awaken the public in his own way. So carefully select some objects who don't cherish life, and tailor a set of levels for them, but ensure that they can get a way out after paying a certain price. Most of the people who passed his test have since corrected their attitude towards life, and some of them are even grateful for the test. Those who failed in the test were given a piece of puzzle-shaped skin by John, as an example. Soon, "Jigsaw" (Jigsaw) rose to fame. John believed that his behavior had extraordinary warning significance to the society, and he began to recruit disciples as appropriate, so that the chainsaw door could continue to flourish after his death. Although the police and the FBI quickly followed him, they were led by the nose by his extraordinary wisdom and became pawns to help him accomplish his grand plan.
2. Mark Hoffman, the big disciple of Chainsaw Door, known as the second uncle
According to the chronological order in the film, Hoffman is John's first disciple. Hoffman is a police officer in the city where John lives, and the violent factor is part of his birth.
Hoffman's only relative, his sister, was tortured and killed by his boyfriend, but was only sentenced to five years in prison due to a legal loophole. The incompetence of the law made his violent tendencies more irrepressible. When the "puzzle killer" went around committing crimes, Hoffman simply pretended to be a "puzzle killer" and executed the murderous enemy who had just been released from prison with extremely cruel methods. Since then, Hoffman's style of disregarding life has completely formed, and he often indiscriminately kills innocents during the law enforcement process. John had been observing in secret, he captured Hoffman, punished him slightly, and accepted him as a disciple. Hoffman is shrewd and strong, resolute and determined. Since then, he has become John's arm and used his status as a police officer to provide his master with a lot of important information.
John hoped that Hoffman could get rid of violent thoughts, inherit the spirit of the chainsaw door, and call himself a policeman. But for Hoffman, joining the chainsaw door is more to satisfy his slaughter habit. For this reason, he has been faithfully implementing every order of John (including the order after John's death). Objectively speaking, Hoffman is indeed in awe of his wise masters, and Hoffman's outstanding ability also makes him the most promising successor. But his philosophy is completely different from that of the master. Once the master dies, he will take charge of the chainsaw door in his own way. In John's view, violence and killing are taboos for chainsaw doors. He educates Hoffman while observing. In the end, he determined that the apprentice's anti-social complex was too deep, and that the reputation of the chainsaw door would only be ruined in his hands, so he arranged secretly, planning to get rid of him after Hoffman finished his death. John first handed his wife Jill, and then Dr. Gordon. Although Hoffman received the warning from the recording in John's belly, he didn't take it seriously. He didn't know the existence of Gordon, and he didn't put the weak female stream Jill in his eyes, but he went on and on and fell into desperation.
3. Amanda Young, the female disciple of Chainsaw Gate, is known as Sister Man.
Amanda is the only female disciple of Chainsaw Gate. She and her boyfriend Cecil are both drug addicts and regular visitors to the Jill rescue station. There was an episode of drug addiction, and she urged Cecil to go to the rescue station to snatch the medicine, which accidentally caused Jill's miscarriage. In this sense, Amanda gave birth to the chainsaw door by mistake.
As a survivor of John's early testing, Amanda became the object of John's deliberate transformation. She is strong on the outside and soft on the inside. She has a subtle affection for John during the transformation process, and is hostile to all young women who come into contact with John. With the power of testing and the admiration of John, Amanda got rid of drug addiction, but secretly retained the habit of self-abuse, in order to calm the mood swings caused by the unfortunate fate and the distortion of feelings. On the surface, she was obedient to John, and she also cooperated very well with his transformation, but in her heart, she didn't think that these tests had brought any substantial changes to her, and she also questioned the changes of other subjects.
The strong doubt about the test effect made Amanda spare no room when testing others and secretly executed Adam and Kerry who had passed the test. John always knew this, but he decided to give Amanda one last test. In order to increase the difficulty of the test, he instructed Hoffman to write a note to expose her old story of Jill's miscarriage, in order to test whether Amanda can abide by the principle of "giving a way to passers" under extreme threats. Suspicion of the test results, coupled with fear of being exposed, caused the only female disciple of the chainsaw door to die on the starting line of the test.
4. The true successor of the chainsaw door is Dr. Lawrence Gordon, who is also known as Dr. Gordon
In terms of the order of apprenticeship, Gordon was the latest to get started, but it also became his biggest advantage: no one knew of his existence except John. This is the key to his success at the end of the chainsaw door.
Gordon used to be John's attending physician and the person who announced the bad news about cancer to John, and naturally became one of the subjects. According to the screenwriter’s explanation, Gordon joined the chainsaw door because he suffered from Stockholm syndrome after the test, which is a symptom of the abused’s dependence on the abuser during the process. Gordon's outstanding medical background greatly increased the difficulty and tricks of the chain saw door test, and greatly promoted the development of the chain saw door.
As John's secret assistant, Gordon has always acted in a low-key manner, but his interest in chainsaw doors is absolutely greater than that of his brothers and sisters. John always hides him by his side, not revealing it to others. This shows the close relationship between them, and it is also a trump card that John left for himself to deal with Hoffman (Hoffman is both wise and brave, and if Gordon is not hidden well, it is really hard to predict victory or defeat if it is not hidden well). In the end, the other two who brought down Hoffman with Gordon were said to be the survivors Ryan and Brad from the window game at the beginning of episode 7. In any case, Gordon has clearly become the new generation leader of chainsaw doors. In the video left by John, he was also appointed to inherit all the secrets of the chainsaw door.
5. Jill Tuck, the owner of the chainsaw door
Jill and John were originally a happy couple. It was a sudden succession of unfortunate events in their lives that caused them to leave their original life trajectory. Jill is kind and eager to give back to the society, as can be seen from her willingness to run a thankless drug addiction aid station. She is dedicated to helping others, and she persists in patience even when her husband expresses disgust with addicts. Her murder and miscarriage is one of the biggest tragedies in the whole drama, and it has also become a turning point in all events.
Although John questioned his wife's gentle rescue philosophy, he still appreciates and appreciates his wife's kindness from the bottom of his heart. When he decided to set up the chainsaw door, he deliberately alienated Jill and made a lot of arrangements in order not to hurt her. But in fact, the interdependence between their husband and wife for many years has already destined them to be disconnected.
After losing her children and husband one after another, Jill's temperament changed from mild to cold. This kind of personality change is at the same time as John in the process, but it's not as drastic as John. Afterwards, Jill and Chainsaw Gate kept a close relationship, neither fully engaged nor inactive. In various games, Jill may not be directly involved, but she obviously knows the existence of many games. At least psychologically, she agreed with her husband's approach, and the kind and innocent Jill no longer exists.
The last role Jill played in the chainsaw door was Hoffman, who was dealing with the inverted phase, which proved that she was not as simple as a bystander in the chainsaw door. Dealing with Hoffman is an arduous task, but Jill is a low-quality female stream. Hoffman has never been put in the eyes of Hoffman, and he acts quietly. With mental arithmetic and unintentional, the chance of success is indeed high. Jill also almost succeeded, but Hoffman is really a superman (for others, he must have died a long time ago). The riot at the police station showed Hoffman's true energy. Jill couldn't escape the poisonous man. He died under the torture instrument designed by her husband, and she was not in vain as the wife of the doorkeeper.
In addition to the above, there are theoretically possible other chainsaw gatekeepers, but there are too few clues to discuss here.
