The English name of this animation is Coraline, while the Chinese name is Ghost Mom. Of course, maybe the Chinese name Ghost Mom is based on market considerations. . A foreign animation called Caroline doesn't feel like it will arouse the interest of Chinese audiences. . . But perhaps, the difference between Chinese and English titles hints at the possibility of the real protagonist of this animation.

We have seen a lot of fairy tales about the hidden world. All imaginative children have their own inhuman world. As a lonely child with rich imagination, introverted, and immersed in various fairy tales, myths and science fiction stories since childhood, although my personal memories of fantasy experiences have long been blurred, the mysterious feeling has always remained. Until my freshman year, I still regarded the two cedar forests behind the dormitory area as a different dimension. And cooperated with the other three girls of 406 to come to this place, tell them the myths that they only remember half of them, and make up mysterious and strange stories. The rich and mysterious atmosphere of the Metasequoia forest didn't disappear until I took the little boy who didn't understand the style to fall in love. Ugh. . sex! ! ! ! ! Once this thing appears, the innocence and aura of human divinity will evaporate! A neurotic little girl grows into a boring adult who reproduces in a normal world!

Pull away.
Actually I meant to say. I think compared to Coraline, the image of ghost mother left a deeper impression on me. . At the beginning, the mechanical and cold hands sew the doll with tenderness. In another perfect world created by the ghost mother, she plays the role of a perfect mother, loving and caring. Yes. She loves Coraline so much, she wants to get Coraline from the bottom of her heart, what is the ghost mother doing? Isn't it selfless.
The black cat answers, She wants something to love, something that isn't her. And
then when the ghost mother comes out in the next scene, the first thing she says is,
They say even the proudest spirit can be broken with love.
I think the true version of this sentence is actually - Even the proudest spirit can be broken, WITHOUT love.

So when Coraline refused to admit the ghost mother's love, she got very angry and locked Coraline in the little dark room and said, You may come out when you've learnt to be a loving daughter.

Ghost mothers have no ability to love. She's bored, empty, and even miserable, so she needs Coraline and the other kids as a vehicle for her to show love. Therefore, for her, the greatest disobedience is to deny her love.

This false love makes her need the object of her love to behave according to her wishes. She wants them! she! want! he! them! She had to sew them into button eyes to satisfy her desire to devour them. And once devoured them, once they were part of her, she stopped loving. Because she doesn't love herself.

This behavior is of course selfish, but how many people are actually doing it in more subtle and subtle ways. The ghost mother's fake love hurt Coraline more than the real mother's indifference hurt her.

But how poor the ghost mother is. Although she hurt others to satisfy herself. But how could she be satisfied? She fell in a tragic, tragic place, filling an endless amount of time and desire with pointless games and manipulation and chasing. And they are all destined to be unfillable. They are real monsters, biting ghost mothers.
As the ghost mother herself said,
"Without love, no matter how proud the soul will be broken."

Poor ghost mother.
Poor ghost mother.

Who can love her and take her out of this hell.

Coraline quotes

  • Other Father: [robotic] All will be swell, soon as Mother's refreshed. Her strength is our strength...

[one of the robotic hands closes his mouth forcefully]

Other Father: Mustn't... talk when Mother's not here.

Coraline Jones: If you won't even talk to me, I'm gonna find the other Wybie. He'll help me.

    Other Father: No point.

    [face distorts]

Other Father: He pulled a loooong face... and Mother didn't like it.

  • Coraline Jones: [on the "Other" Mother] Why does she want me?

Cat: She wants something to love, I think. Something that isn't her. Or, maybe she'd just love something to eat.

Coraline Jones: Eat? That's ridiculous, mothers don't eat... daughters.

Cat: I don't know. How do you taste?

    [chuckles]
