invisible fear

The real horror never comes from the hideous and bloody, but from the fear of the unknown, and among these unknowns, being invisible is undoubtedly the most disturbing one.

The story line is quite simple. It describes Sarah, who loves adventure sports, and she is devastated after the death of her husband and daughter. Her best friend Juno, because she can't bear to watch Sarah go down, invites a few friends who love adventure to go to the cave together. I don't have a particular love for related sports, but based on my distrust of Juno and concern for Sarah, I decided to go to the cave together for adventure and relaxation.

In the first half of the story, the general background introduction and the dialogue between the characters reveal the character background. The real horror begins to gradually reveal when everyone steps into the cave. The whole movie gives very little light after stepping into the cave. With the searchlights and the occasional burning rods on the characters, walking through the narrow caves, and even trying to cross the rifts in the caves are terrifying to watch. The atmosphere and the scene are quite successful, let me From time to time, I get cold sweats for the characters.

Although the appearance of the monster in the follow-up arrangement also makes people nervous and heartbeat, the director did not set it as a terrifying alien creature like aliens. Here begins a great turning point in the plot, from the fear of the unknown. Turned to the darkness of human nature in the face of extreme fear.

First, Juno began to fight with the monster caveman in order to save his companions, and then Juno accidentally injured Beth, but left it to fend for itself. The beginning of cruel humanity. In fact, I can't blame Juno's behavior here. In this extreme environment and terror, law and morality have long been useless. How to survive is the top priority, just like animals are attacked in the process of migration. It will leave behind the old, the weak and the sick.

At this moment in this scene, Juno has abandoned his sociality as a human being. On the other hand, it may also be because Beth has always known that Juno is the third party in Sarah's marriage. Based on various fears and the dark side of human nature, Juno decides to give up Beth.

Afterwards, Sarah experienced her companions being eaten in front of her eyes and couldn't cry out; knowing that Juno was the third party in her marriage and personally ended Beth's life, she finally became the straw that overwhelmed her inner depression.

It can be seen from the following plot that everyone's obsession with "survival" and "fighting" is very different.

Compared with the helplessness of Rebecca and Jessica when they met the cave monster and found that the other party could only perceive the sound, and the helplessness when they finally decided to take up the weapon to attack, it can be seen that they did not really get rid of their fear and social moral education. The bottom line given at the time, the so-called meeting on a narrow road, the brave wins, if you can be a little bolder, maybe the ending will be different.

Juno is obviously a girl who likes to pursue excitement and impulse. It can be seen that he still attaches great importance to Sarah as a friend, and his cheating on her husband also brought her a great sense of guilt both physically and mentally, so that she always wanted to do something for Sarah. something to atone for their sins. The later separation from Sarah and the sight of her companion's death gave her the courage to fight. Maybe that's why Juno made many wrong choices, but I still can't hate her very much.

Freud divided people into three structures: ego, id, and superego

If Rebecca and Jessica are still in the three, and Juno abandoned the superego, then Sarah after the collapse gave up both the id and the superego, leaving the complete ego.

The follow-up action became a battlefield for Sarah to vent her various psychological depressions. If Juno was just fighting the cavemen, then Sarah was a massacre for the cavemen. Various attack methods and means emerged one after another, as if people forgot. Before that, she might have been an "ordinary person" who would have lingering fears even killing animals.

In the end, Sarah and Juno met and broke her leg without hesitation. After fleeing by herself, Sarah fell into a coma. In a dream, she saw Juno who was dead and woke up. Does this represent conscience or is she looking for a new one? back to me? I think it's hard to give a definite answer.

For a low-investment thriller movie, the first half is undoubtedly quite successful in terms of expression and style. Many scenes will make you nervous and anxious along with the characters in the play. The director will undoubtedly make the dark and invisible. Fear is on full display.

Although the second half cannot be said to be poorly shot, it shows everyone's understanding of facing terror, difficult changes and the darkness between human nature, but unfortunately there is less struggle. And Sarah suddenly changed from a middle-aged woman to an open-minded middle-aged woman or um.... Let's take it as a demonstration of feminism. (sweat
