Last week was mostly dramatic irony, this week was mostly mystery
It's a thriller about vampires and a love story between two lonely people on the edge. One is Ellie, a genderless vampire who cannot see the light, and the other is Oscar, a single-parent boy who is isolated and bullied at school.
The opening scene of the movie is a dark sky with white snowflakes scattered. This story takes place in a Nordic winter, and the icy tones are misty cold colors.
This movie is very good at using sound. At the beginning of the film, I didn't see anyone, but I heard his voice first, a boy's voice "Scream, you pig." We were immediately drawn in with the question, who is screaming? what happened? where are we? We didn't know what was going on, so we started expecting answers. Immediately afterwards, the audience got the answer - a boy maneuvering into the void with a knife, trying to attack someone. At the same time, the audience discovered a new question, why did the boy do this. In the following plot, we can see that the boy experienced school violence, and he imagined revenge on the classmates who had violence against him.
The boy practicing by the window heard the sound of a car, and then found a pair of new tenants, an elderly man and a twelve-year-old girl. Sensitive viewers will find some strange behaviors and raise new questions. Why does the old man open the door for the girl with more respect? Why did the girl go upstairs without carrying a luggage? Why does the old man put cardboard on the window? The audience began to speculate, and some viewers who have read a lot of vampire movie books may guess that this is a vampire movie and that girls are vampires. The screenwriter and director did not directly tell the audience that this was a vampire, but let the audience guess by themselves through the display of details. After the audience had a guess, they began to look forward to the next minute to tell them that the guess was correct. Then, we saw the old man preparing a series of strange tools, a strange mask, a knife, a container, and a press sprayer. The audience started to guess what this is for? In the next scene, the answer emerges. These are the tools of murder. Men use these tools to kill and bleed. Why kill? It's for food for girls. From the perspective of these two plot lines, the reasoning is linked. See results, deduce why, and ask new questions at the same time. During this process, the audience's head turned, and they had a sense of participation in the plot.
When Oscar and Ellie first met, Ellie said to Oscar: "We can't be friends." (Whispering BB: If the flag would fall) We would guess that maybe she said that because she was a vampire. At the same time we have a sense that the story knows more than we currently know, and that we probably wouldn't have known anything without this movie. Mystery is the opposite of dramatic irony. Mystery excludes the audience, the audience doesn't know how the story will develop, while dramatic irony includes the audience, watching the protagonist step by step toward their unknown destiny. Mystery makes the audience want to go back to the story and understand him. The scene of "We Can't Be Friends" builds up the unknown world in a year, and the audience isn't quite sure if she's a vampire, and the other characters in the movie don't even know. In fact, there is also dramatic irony here. A successful movie always combines mystery and dramatic irony well.
With the development of the plot, Oscar and Ellie's relationship got better little by little. The boy gave the girl a Rubik's cube, and the two studied Morse code together. With Ellie's encouragement, Oscar fought back against his classmate who bullied him, Oscar Ellie A relationship is established, and Oscar discovers Ellie's secret - she's a vampire, and she's not even a girl. Here, Ellie's gender is vaguely dealt with, and it can be seen that the love of a 12-year-old child is the most irrelevant. Think of a popular saying, there is no sexual orientation in this world, only what the heart wants. Ellie attacked the residents of the town, and her identity as a vampire was discovered, and she had to leave.
There are two scenes here that are worth moving.
One is the old man who helped Ellie kill and get blood. After the failure of the second operation, before being caught, in order to make people not recognize his relationship with Ellie, he disfigured his face with acid. In the end, he volunteered his life to become Ellie's food.
One is that after Oscar knew Ellie's identity as a vampire, their relationship developed a rift. Oscar didn't let Ellie enter the house, Ellie forced her in, and the seven orifices bleed. The girl asked the boy to stand in his place and think about her situation. In the end, the boy was still Softened.
After Ellie left the town, Oscar's life was still the same as before, and he still occasionally went to learn to swim and exercise, and a conspiracy against him came.
The little villain in the school called him to come to the swimming pool at night to express reconciliation. But in fact, the audience knows that this is a trap, and Oscar doesn't know, he doesn't know what he will face, and the audience can't help but sweat for him.
The little villain's brother, the big gangster, pressed Oscar's head in the water and made him hold his breath for three minutes before he could come up.
This underwater scene is very classic, and the footage has not been switched. As time passed, a strange sound was heard off-camera, which signaled us that something was about to happen. The lens remains underwater and keeps the mystery, and if the lens rises from the water to the surface, the mystery is revealed. While the footage doesn't tell us directly what happened, we can all guess that the vampires are back. Then seeing the boy's foot, the broken arm, and the head, we can easily guess that the world above the water is in a fierce fight. In this way, not only did we always capture our curiosity and make us crave to know about the water world, but at the same time, we made up for the plot above the water outside the screen, and the crew saved a lot of money for fighting scenes. Then the fight is over, the boy is pulled out of the water, and we see the water world full of wreckage. By now, we can fully understand the scene where the boy exercises with a knife at the beginning, we fully understand what he is facing at school, and the revenge he wants is achieved by the hands of the vampire.
In the final scene, Oscar is banging on the big suitcase to communicate with Ellie on the train, and we suddenly realize that the killing drill in the opening movie may be for later preparations, and we realize that she will always be twelve and Oscar will be day by day. Growing up to be an old man, we realize that maybe Oscar will spend the rest of his life like that old man murdering her until he dies.
The movie is over, the story continues, and the story may be a loopback. The old "Oscar" finally died because of Ellie, and the young "Oscar" will meet the twelve-year-old Ellie.
