Disappointment in the fifties

I have always been devoted to the classic Hollywood films of the 1950s, probably because of the high status of Citizen Kane and the like, and the quality of the films is also second to none. I have known Billy Wilder for a long time, and I have only seen his prosecution witnesses, so when I decided to watch Sunset Boulevard by chance, my heart was full of anticipation, and even a tribute.

But after watching the movie in one night, I was a little disappointed. The story was flat without any ups and downs. There were no reversals in the imagination and the truth of the four or two thousand jins of revealing the truth. Therefore, even the expectation of turning the tide before the final film was lost. It is a simple story. A simple little screenwriter meets a simple outdated actor. The simple expired actor is wandering between living in the past and longing for recognition, and gradually goes to the extreme. Finally, through the mirror of the small screenwriter, the outdated actor and the era are separated. The contradiction between them was sharply reflected, and they ended in madness.

That's it.

If the label is a biographical film, my feelings will be much better than it is now. Is it unrealistic to long for a reversal based on real processing, but is it too boring for a film that is advertised as noir, so plain and calm? ?

It's disappointing on the whole, in the two-star category, but a movie from the 1950s can actually realize the outdated topic of movie stars at the junction of silent movies.

The last scene Norma walks down the steps and into the camera, getting closer and then out of focus and fades out. This timeless and classic scene is not only a satire of the star system, but also a typical Billy-style bitterness. Holden looks so amazing, especially when she puts on the dress, she's amazing, wait, am I focusing on the wrong thing?

The film is absolutely classic, that is, if she is so rich, it would be nice to marry Feng Xiaogang, and she will definitely customize a big-name drama like Party A and Party B. Starting with the tone of the murdered, is the address really 10086 on Sunset Boulevard? The Chinese subtitles were added by themselves. The old lady said that the constellation was really drunk. Sunset Blvd. quotes

  • Joe Gillis (as narrator): [Joe is reading Norma's script] Sometimes it's interesting to see just how bad - bad writing can be. This promised to go the limit.

  • Max Von Mayerling: There were three young directors who showed promise in those days: D. W. Griffith, Cecil B. DeMille, and Max Von Mayerling.

Joe Gillis: And she's turned you into a servant.

Max Von Mayerling: It was I who asked to come back, as humiliating as it may seem. I could have continued my career; only I found everything unendurable after she'd left me. You see, I was her first husband.
