"Heart to heart" is a very unlikely thing. People's needs are intertwined, which makes it impossible for any of them to satisfy the other. Gillis got material security from Norma and a youthful breath from Betty, but he rejected Norma's old age, Betty's not rich, no matter which world he was in, there were disappointments. If Gillis could honestly state his needs, not hide anything, and tolerate nothing, he would not have conflicts and torture with them, but he kept his mouth shut, and then became a prisoner. Gillis's final departure was wise, but he could not escape punishment - "All the gifts from fate have already been marked with prices in secret."
