A Brief Comment on "The Bridge on the River Kwai"

The Bridge on the River Kwai is the work of David Lean. I was shocked after watching his "Doctor Zhivago", so I went on to watch his "The Bridge on the River Kwai". To be honest, this movie really didn't give me the same feeling as "Doctor Zhivago". The pattern is not that big, but for me, it is already a very good movie.

The film created a sharp contradiction from the beginning, and quickly entered the play. In the second half, the rhythm slowed down, and then, the end was another big climax.

At first I understood the film as British pride and efficiency defeating Japanese hierarchy and aimless effort. I was moved by the perseverance of the British officers. I suddenly remembered the words "born proud".

Later, I found that the pattern was much bigger than I thought, and the war made people crazy. When in the end, the train is blown up and innocent civilians are killed, we know that there is no justice or injustice in war, and there is no honor. As the escaped soldier said, we forget about humanity.

The Bridge on the River Kwai quotes

  • Colonel Nicholson: It is quite understandable; it's a very natural reaction. But one day - in a week, a month, a year - on that day when, God willing, we all return to our homes again, you're going to feel very proud of what you have achieved here in the face of great adversity. What you have done should be, and I think will be, an example to all our countrymen, soldier and civilian alike. You have survived with honor - that, and more - here in the wilderness. You have turned defeat into victory. I congratulate you. Well done.
