Alternative war movies

War movies in the traditional sense: either show how heroic the protagonist is, or show how tragic the war is, or the whole film is filled with strong anti-war ideas. And this film has no fierce war scenes, nor justice and evil in the traditional sense; some are just the maintenance of the law, the persistence of beliefs and the embodiment of life values; it can be said that this film has transcended the boundaries of war . The film leaves the audience the right to evaluate right and wrong, and also brings more thought and regret to the audience. There are no flashy scenes and exciting moments, but I feel particularly comfortable after watching this film; not only because of the film's smooth narrative, but also because of the director's grasp of the film's ideas. Finally, I'd like to add: I don't think Colonel Nicholson is a traitor, he just wants to do something meaningful in his military career to make his life worth living. This is exactly what the old saying goes: there is no right or wrong in times of war.

The Bridge on the River Kwai quotes

  • Commander Shears: I can think of a lot of things to call Saito, but "reasonable"... that's a new one.

  • Colonel Nicholson: It is quite understandable; it's a very natural reaction. But one day - in a week, a month, a year - on that day when, God willing, we all return to our homes again, you're going to feel very proud of what you have achieved here in the face of great adversity. What you have done should be, and I think will be, an example to all our countrymen, soldier and civilian alike. You have survived with honor - that, and more - here in the wilderness. You have turned defeat into victory. I congratulate you. Well done.
