paradox

The themes this film talks about are dignity, war, establishment, destruction. Of course, the bridge that the British army worked so hard to build was not for Japan. They knew that the war would end sooner or later, and the bridge would stay for the benefit of the local people. But the Americans worked hard, risked their lives, and sacrificed several lives to blow up the bridge. The British colonel said that when he looked back on his life, would the world be a little better because of his existence? When the bridge was built, his inner answer was, yes. What did he think when the bridge was blown up? He built the bridge and he blew it up. Reminds me of Pope's poem quoted in "The Beginning", like emperors we lose the conquest gained before, by vain ambition still to make them more.

Only in old classics can you see people and people with such integrity, even in situations of abnormal conflict. Nixon, Saito, and Shields are not so much the embodiment of national character, but rather a few renditions of the ultimate Integrity. After that, the film began to tell the times of confusion and entanglement. I fought with my friends for a long time for the ending, obviously the director was lazy and didn't want to make a difficult decision. .

When I was a child, I only had a little impression of the part of the bombing bridge, and I felt that the ending was a little rushed, but the portrayal of several main characters was excellent

The Bridge on the River Kwai quotes

  • Colonel Nicholson: It is quite understandable; it's a very natural reaction. But one day - in a week, a month, a year - on that day when, God willing, we all return to our homes again, you're going to feel very proud of what you have achieved here in the face of great adversity. What you have done should be, and I think will be, an example to all our countrymen, soldier and civilian alike. You have survived with honor - that, and more - here in the wilderness. You have turned defeat into victory. I congratulate you. Well done.
