It was not until everyone on the Internet praised the film that I downloaded it again and found that the previous judgment was wrong.
The plot of the film is fascinating from the beginning, clearly the life of a modern Julien. I'm actually very interested in the double life of the protagonist because he represents a part of himself. Seeing him busy dealing with everything, he was always worried about what kind of fork he would make. In the end, he did something very despicable, and I still have to breathe a sigh of relief that he got away with it.
On the other hand, the heroine is such a lovely person, she looks good, not to mention, and she is more able to stick to her own ideas and lives, representing another part of herself. Seeing her end in such a tragic end, I couldn't help but feel resentful.
In general, this film still relies on dialogue to maintain the plot, showing people's psychology, or Woody Allen's old practice. But the actors are better than him, they are attractive, they speak with expressions, and the social roles they show are embedded in social class, not as unique as Woody himself. Those stratum characteristics are a real display, so that the characters are not pointless and empty.
In the past, another Woody film, which showed the family's repressed feelings, was also very good. The gray background matched the repressed psychology. Wu himself is also absent from the cast.
Therefore, I think Wu's film has a high level of screenwriting. If the actors hire others, the film will have a different flavor.
