The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish)

Perhaps it is because I've experienced the storyline too many times already, the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo left me wanting more. Like its American adaptation, the film largely stay true to the book with minor deviations in a couple of places, of course this is a good thing as it is truly a magnificent story, but perhaps at some places, it also inherits the book too much so that the pacing is too slow for a motion picture. What I really like about this film is that it attempts to dive deeper into the psychology of the characters and also does a better job at connecting the sequels. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, everything seems a little too familiar to be memorable, and its American adaptation will continue to represent the imprint of the story in my mind.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo quotes

  • Mikael Blomkvist: I would have never done it, Lisbeth, but I understand why you did. I don't know what you have experienced, but I was about to die in that cellar, and you saved my life. Whatever you have seen, you don't need to tell me. I'm just happy that you're here.

  • Lisbeth Salander: [tattooing Bjurman] I've never done this before. Hold still, or it'll get messy.
