The first is not so much science fiction as it is a sociological model and a Christian allegory.
Several occupations of the characters in the first part: escape experts, police officers, doctors, math students, architects, idiots-represent several identities in human society.
And this unknown, unknown and extremely dangerous space is the earth and even the universe where we live.
The film expresses its attitude towards these kinds of identities and ideas by means of storytelling. and indicated the direction of mankind.
Jailbreak Experts - Technicians
Technologists often have an unfettered, authority-defying personality, such as hackers. Using jailbreak experts to represent technicians is exactly that. In the video, we can also see that this prison escape expert despises the organization and disdains the police and everyone.
However, it is clear that the film believes that although the technicians have unique skills, the ones that are farthest away from the "road" are these small tricks. So this kind of person is the first to die (except for the victim in the opening chapter), and he will be humiliated by his death and stinked by the police after his death.
His only role is to teach the team two tricks, such as sticking clothes buttons in their mouths to stimulate saliva, and finding the way by throwing shoes. Then he can die.
Police - Government
films shape the police first and then suppress. The police initially showed calm and organization as a leader. Unite the panicked crowd into a team.
But the further back it develops, the more the police reveal their essence - the ruler.
In the end, the police kill the doctor, attempt to rape and kill the student, attack the architect...
It is clear that the film definitely does not think that the government is the hope of mankind.
Doctor - The role of Doctor Benevolence
has little contribution to the team. She just kept protecting that idiot.
The rest of the team, especially the police, insisted that the idiot should be left behind, and he was clearly a liability to the team. But the doctor was adamantly against it. Repeatedly challenged the authority of the police. Finally, the police finally found a chance to kill her.
But are doctors (benevolent, akin to environmentalists and animal protectionists) really useless? The video tells us that it is useful. Although she herself is not the final answer.
Math Student - Rational (Science)
Math student is the "core technology" of the team, without her calculations, the team would not be able to do anything. But she's just a tool. Throw it away by the police. In the end, she failed to find a bright way out.
Architect - Faith (religion)
Architect is the strangest character. Because he was extremely negative from the beginning, and he was reluctant to leave the original room from the beginning. From beginning to end, he looked half dead.
However, he claims to have been involved in the design of the space. But he only designed the shell. He doesn't know what's going on inside -- it's the same as religion explains the universe.
At the same time, he kept showing the attitude of "atonement". For example, at the end of the film, he had the opportunity to go to the light, but he voluntarily refused. The math student asked him what was outside. He speaks of "infinitely stupid human nature" - which fits perfectly with the Christian "atonement".
Although he himself did not ultimately lead the "way out". But the film thinks he is right. (The reason will be explained later)
Idiot - The answer
to the role of an idiot was useless at the beginning, everyone wanted to abandon him, only the doctor had been taking care of him and never gave up on him.
In the end, he showed his remarkable talent, like a supercomputer. In the end, he was the only one who succeeded in moving towards a bright future.
In fact, he refers to the kind of person who has never eaten the forbidden fruit in Christianity.
His outstanding talent is what he was born with and does not need to be learned or shaped. What is created the day after tomorrow is wrong. It is right not to eat the forbidden fruit and to remain "smart". You are already beautiful.
Why does the film think the architect's attitude is correct?
First, the architect finally stopped the police persecution of idiots.
Second, the architect was against leaving the original room from the start - remember? The math students passed through difficult calculations and the team risked their lives all the way. Unexpectedly, the students stepped on a piece of broken glass, which was the shards of glasses left by the students in the original room. Therefore, it is meaningless to pass the customs, it is tossing and tossing, the correct way is to stay in place and do not move.
So the whole film, expresses nothing but the original sin thought of Christianity.
He believes that as long as he stays put, God will naturally give a way out to the purest of hearts.
Government, technology, science, religion, benevolence... are just graded rockets that help the simple people finally succeed in "landing on the moon".
