Twin Peaks (双峰) 1990-1991

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (Shuangfeng:

Walking with Fire) A famous masterpiece in 1992 . When you watch movies, you need to look at boutiques, and you can also watch American TV shows. I searched the Internet and found an IMDB ranking list for TV series. The several American dramas before "Shuangfeng", "Development Blocked" and "FireWire" are not my favorite genres, and I don't like to watch cartoons. Others either don't have Chinese subtitles or have no resources. Only "Double Peaks" has a complete season resource, plus this is the work of David Lynch, who I admire. I am determined to take a look.

This American drama has two seasons, 8 episodes in the first season, 22 episodes in the second season, plus a movie prequel. The total number of episodes is small, but I actually watched it for nearly two months. The process is really a torment, and the more I watch it, the more it collapses. There are many reasons for my collapse, both advantages and disadvantages, to put it simply.

One is the setting of the plot, which makes me crash, but this is also the advantage of this drama. The plot involves many supernatural phenomena: soul possession, alien legends, parallel worlds, alien creatures, angels and demons. These elements are integrated into a drama, making the plot full of puzzles. In order to follow the plot and understand the story, I was very broken. I have basically seen all the movies made by David Lynch. He is a super magical director, so for his story mode, I have been somewhat prepared before watching the film. Even so, when I went deep into the plot, I still saw my creeps and scalp tingling. Every time there is a turning point in the plot, it surprises me. The trend of the plot will always surprise me.

The second is the weird way of filming the series, which made me very broken when I watched it. This is the advantage of the film. After watching "Blue Velvet", "Mulholland Road", "The Wilderness of the Night" and "Inland Empire", I have learned a lot about David Lynch's shooting mode. It is unusual and often has a very strange atmosphere. The same is true for this film, such as the sudden appearance of hideous faces, obnoxious weird expressions, rooms with weird settings, virtual and real images that seem to be true, and the strange characters that appear from time to time that have nothing to do with the plot. Not comfortable. I advise people who want to watch this drama, never watch it at night, because the scenes in the screen will cause people to have a variety of fears. This kind of fear is more serious than that brought by horror movies. Horror movies are only visual, but what "Twin Peaks" brings is psychological and goes deep into my heart. A few times, I got goose bumps all over and had to collapse.

The third is the slow tempo of the show itself, and the procrastination makes me very broken. This is a shortcoming. Nowadays, the rhythm and structure of American TV series are similar to those of movies, and there may be many American TV series with more information than a movie. The times are advancing, and the film and television production industry is also advancing. Therefore, in the 21st century today, if you look at the dramas from 20 years ago, of course you can’t get used to that slow narrative. In the first season, there were a total of 8 episodes, and the rhythm was better, and it was a bit procrastinated. But when it came to the second season, it became more procrastinated. Many scenes that are irrelevant to the plot are time-consuming, such as drinking a cup of coffee, the camera has to stay on the coffee cup for a few seconds, then lift the cup for a few seconds, and then take a few more sips. At first I thought that drinking coffee had a lot to do with the plot, but later I found out that it had nothing to do with it. The character was drinking coffee! What I can't accept the most is that many characters in the series have to drink a few sips of coffee from time to time, which really makes me speechless. There is another scene that I am most impressed with. It was the last episode of the second season, when a staggering old man was pacing in the bank, and the camera actually captured the old man's slow process! Isn't this no plot, just stretch the time? What's so good about an old man walking? And it has nothing to do with the plot. Looking at a total of 30 episodes of the story, the episodes are quite long, but I don’t remember what the characters in the play did? This is because the characters waste a lot of time drinking coffee, walking, and other things that have nothing to do with the plot. Therefore, I only finished reading the 30 episodes of the story in two months, which is too procrastinating!

The fourth is the side plot that has nothing to do with the drama, which makes me very broken. In the eight episodes of the first season, the plot was very simple, it was how to detect the case and catch the murderer. By the second season, the story was out of focus. Nadine Hurley amnesia, Lucy Moran is pregnant, James Hurley is framed, Audrey Horne's love, Jocelyn'Josie' Packard's conspiracy, Catherine Martell and his brother's resurrection, Norma Jennings' love with Big Ed Hurley, Deputy Andy Brennan and Dick Tremayne Children’s investigations, several crimes involving Deputy Tommy'Hawk' Hill, etc., these plots have nothing to do with the murder of Night Watch and Laura Palmer. These messy stories are all plots pieced together for the sake of the story. When I watched the show, I didn't know that these had nothing to do with the main storyline, and I watched it seriously. But looking at it, I feel more and more wrong, and the more I look at it, the more it breaks down. There is no need to shoot 22 episodes in the second season. The story should end after Leland Palmer is caught and disappeared. The rest of the story, the dog's tail continued, affects the entire series.

The fifth story came to an abrupt end, and the ending of the characters was not fully explained, which made me fall apart. The 22 episodes of the second season ended after Dale Cooper was possessed, and the other people's stories were not involved at all. The most incomprehensible thing is that in the last 15 minutes, I spent a lot of time walking around the room. This time can clearly tell the stories of other people and wasted precious time. Is Audrey Horne dead? Who is Donna Hayward's father? What happened after Benjamin Horne was beaten? How about Norma Jennings, Big Ed Hurley, Deputy Tommy'Hawk' Hill? Are Andrew Packard and Pete Martell dead? Has Lucy Moran's child been born? How does Leo Johnson end? How did Garland Briggs act after hearing the message from the night watch? Has Annie Blackburn become like Dale Cooper? These are unrepresented plots. This kind of abrupt cessation really made me miserable and also made me collapse. Is "Twin Peaks" a hacked drama? Originally planned to have a third season?

The above is the story of 30 episodes in two seasons, which brings me to my feelings. Another movie version of "Shuangfeng: Walking with Fire", although it also broke me down, but the elements were a little less.

I've watched this movie version before, and I didn't understand it the first time I watched it. Now after reading it the second time, I know what the story tells. If you haven't watched the two seasons of 30 episodes, you can't understand the plot at all. This movie version can be said to be a "fill in the hole", which interprets the truth of the matter revealed in the 30 episodes of the story in the correct order. We can finally know how Laura Palmer was killed. It turns out that the "filling the hole" of Hollywood TV series has a fine tradition.

Compared with the drama, the movie version retains the advantages of the drama and discards the shortcomings, which is perfect. Since it has the advantages of the drama, there are bound to be all kinds of weird scenes and unbelievable plots. These elements continue to break me down, especially when I can see it alone at night. In short, it is more terrifying, more terrifying, and more mysterious than the drama, and there is nothing less than it! In addition, the movie version has several shortcomings: the actor of Donna Hayward has been changed; the role of Audrey Horne has been deleted; many characters have not appeared. These shortcomings make the "Double Peaks" series incomplete and inconsistent. Although the characters that did not appear have nothing to do with the murder of Laura Palmer, they are part of the whole series after all, without them being incomplete. It's a pity that the directors spent 30 episodes creating these characters.

The full set of dramas also has a very big advantage: beauty is like a cloud! There are too many beauties in the film, and the main female characters are all beautiful to the extreme. Anyone can come out alone as the heroine. Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, and Madchen Amick are four beauties, each of which is so glamorous that it is amazing that an American drama can gather so many beauties. It is a pity that none of these beauties have become popular. Most of them were born in the 1970s, and they are now in their forties. It seems that even with a good face, it may not necessarily be red.

Looking at the drama and the movie version together, it is a good drama with a strong David Lynch style and a powerful impact. It is a pity that the terrible plot of the second season affected the overall quality of the show and lowered the level of this show. The appearance of the movie version slightly improved the overall level. It cannot be said that this series is a masterpiece, but it is also worth watching. After all, this is a work 20 years ago.
