Filming on Good Friday

I'm not a Christian. But the film was a baptism for me.

The story is about 4,000 years ago. We should never look at it with the eyes of a modern person, and judge the actions of the characters in the film with ideas that have been infected by capitalism, consumerism and political education since childhood. On the contrary, I think we should feel the worship of gods, redemption, and transcendent powers in our hearts as human beings with our "bestial", "ignorant", "simple" nature.

For Christians, this film is a reenactment of the story and a tribute to saints; however, I still cannot fully understand and agree with the Christian faith, so from a pragmatic point of view, this is also what we non-Christians look at this. One of the windows of a great religious doctrine and spirituality. Jesus has been suffering throughout the film, from the initial insult, judgment, to corporal punishment, to the final crucifixion, many scenes are unbearable The director obviously did not shy away from blood and violence, because in the Christian belief, this is what Jesus suffered for them. If you can't even accept what he suffered, then why not follow him? For me, who is still atheist for the time being, there is absolutely no filter of faith, but the blurring of flesh and blood in the film makes me feel more sacred than uncomfortable; the insistence on truth conveyed by the narrative And the conviction, and the cast and crew's effort to restore the classic, sacred, makes me reluctant to skip every frame with deep respect.

There are not many lines and dialogues in the film, and everyone speaks with their eyes. After Jesus was dripping with blood and tortured, his eyes were still calm and sympathetic; Virgin Mary - sadness, love, strength. The Roman prefect is confused and at a loss ; The high priest looked away after seeing Jesus' crucifixion; Jesus' disciples (Judas, Peter) and others feared, panicked, and blamed themselves. Their eyes looked at yours and dragged you into this world.

The quality of the service is the ultimate in a 2004 movie. I believe that there were no such fancy special effects available at that time. I think the performance of the actor who played Jesus in it is impeccable, and it can even be said to be a masterpiece .

One reason for the recommendation comes from my personal experience of watching movies. During these two hours, I could feel my heart beating very slow, breathing very deep; my heart was very sad, as if it was firmly covered by a dark cloud, but at the same time, I was very calm , without anger or other intense negative emotions. It was an amazing experience, as if getting closer to the unseen self, the being who was looking around with my eyes and breathing with my nose .
