Judas After watching it, I was very surprised by this conclusion, because in my opinion, even a person who has no emotional knowledge of Christianity should never be indifferent to the impact of the plot.
The plot is simple, Mel Gibson is not as daring as Scorsese to make a deviant "The Last Temptation of Christ", he just honestly reflects the experience of the 12 hours before Christ's crucifixion. Slightly free play, but the general direction is not bad at all.
Maybe only the first ten minutes are a little confusing. The plot of the devil tempting Jesus is not well known. The scene of Jesus saying goodbye to the disciples is also very obscure. In addition, it seems that the director deliberately used a very jumpy shot. Even the actor's role may not be recognized clearly, which makes people feel confused.
But from the time when the high priest escorted Jesus to Pilate to demand judgment, the film has nowhere to go to sleep. There was a confrontation between the high priest and Pilate. Pilate insisted that he would not sentence Jesus, and then sent it to King Herod for a judgment, and King Herod kicked the ball back to Pilate. Under the strong pressure of the high priest and the crowd, Pilate had no choice but to bring out a murderer and asked the people to choose between Jesus and the murderer to be released. However, to his surprise, the people chose to release the murderer in unison. .
Next is the first climax of the play. In desperation, Pilate sentenced Jesus to be whipped. After a whipping, Jesus was beaten to the ground without a complete place, and was beaten to a bloody mess. Many close-ups of the face and body are really amazing. Fortunately, I have always been invulnerable to violent and bloody scenes, so I have been acting here, and this film can only be rated as medium
. After the caning, Pilate's He thought that he could just give up, but the emotions of the people did not dissipate. Under the temptation of the high priest, they still demanded that Jesus be sentenced to death. Pilate was hesitant, and turned to Jesus for an answer. Jesus naturally would not ask for mercy. Acknowledging Pilate's judicial power, but giving everything to the Father. Pilate had no reason for asylum, and the high priest threatened to sue the Roman emperor, and Jesus was finally sentenced to death.
The director used the remaining half of the film to describe the journey of Jesus from the interrogation field to the crucifixion. Such an hour with almost no plot at all became the best part of the film. In addition to a large number of detailed descriptions of the torture and tragic situations that Jesus continued to suffer on the road, Judas, Mary, Magdalene, and even the devil all appeared in turn to help create the tragic atmosphere of this tragedy.
I'm not a Christian, and I don't feel anything at all about the religious atmosphere of the whole film, but when Maria wept before Jesus, Jesus' words "Mother, everything will start over again" still shook me a lot, I think this sentence It is very good to point out the theme of the whole film, which is the finishing touch.
There was a close-up shot of the devil smiling when Jesus was first whipped, but when Jesus was finally crucified, in the close-up shot that appeared again, it seemed that even the devil couldn't bear to watch this horrific sight. method is still acceptable. But then the sky and the earth changed color, the earth shook and the mountains swayed, and the crowd fled in all directions. This scene was difficult for me to understand and accept. Since Jesus had already said to the Father, "Forgive them, they don't know what they've done," then this obviously punishing and wrathful shaking of the earth should not be the attitude of the Father. He should forgive, as Jesus did, or Jesus' sacrifice would be meaningless.
After the soldiers and the crowd dispersed, the followers of Jesus carried him off the cross. The whole film ended, and the resurrection scene did not continue.
Overall, the plot of this film is not strong, but the scene is absolutely shocking. Even if you have no perception of the religious atmosphere in the film, it is difficult to watch it indifferently for two hours. It is a masterpiece worth watching.
